Russian President Vladimir Putin cast his ballot in the State Duma elections online from his Kremlin office.

This isn’t the first time Putin has participated in this format: as the Kremlin previously noted, the president also voted online for the past several years.

On Friday, September 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin voted in the elections for deputies to the 9th State Duma. The head of state made his choice online.

You can’t go wrong

‘You can’t go wrong!’ the head of state said before casting his vote. After clicking the mouse a few times and casting his ballot, Putin said, ‘Thank you.’ A notification appeared on the monitor: ‘Thank you, you have voted successfully!’

This isn’t the first time Putin has participated in elections in this format. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously noted that ‘for the past several years, the president has used a very convenient, very reliable method of voting, online.’

More transparent than the Western Systems

Parliamentary elections began in Russia. They will be held over three days, from September 18 to 20. 450 deputies will be elected: 225 in single-mandate constituencies and 225 in the federal electoral district.

More than 2,200 election campaigns at all levels are planned, with approximately 20,700 parliamentary seats and elective positions to be filled.

The Opening of the Ballot Boxes

This morning, Ella Pamfilova, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), announced that the opening of all polling stations proceeded without incident.

‘As the polling stations opened, other than the occasional issues, thank God, nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Everything proceeded as normal,’ she said.

Putin’s Address to the Nation

Ahead of the elections, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered his traditional address to the Russian people. He said that citizens’ participation in the vote is a responsibility and a contribution to strengthening the country.

Putin’s Party Victory Assured

I am confident that, with your support and trust, victory will go to the most worthy and competent candidates, true Russian patriots, those who will not let us down, those who have demonstrated their devotion to the Motherland, their willingness to serve our people, and to defend the country from any threats,’ the president declared.

He called on Russians to ‘absolutely exercise their constitutional right and make a thoughtful, responsible decision so that the election results confirm the maturity and resilience of Russian society.’
