Pentagon officials recently asked several NATO countries, including Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, to tone down rhetoric about Russian threats, Reuters reported, citing sources.
The reason for the request was the belief that the pro-war statements about Russia from some European leaders and officials harm the security of the continent, four sources familiar with the situation said.
Russia like a cornered rat?
Among the remarks that have caught the attention of U.S. officials are the judgments of European leaders that Russia is ‘like a rat’ cornered.
and is resorting to increasingly desperate steps as its invasion of Ukraine has slowed to a minimum, one source said.

Meaningless War Drumming.
Such rhetoric was described as meaningless, the source said, adding that a request was made ‘not to provoke Russia’ with such statements.

‘We are helping you. The Americans are there,’ said another European official, recounting recent private Pentagon messages. ‘Just don’t make noise. Don’t make a fuss.’
The requests were not expressed in a ‘confrontational’ tone, the agency’s interlocutors said.
