Is it too late to save Europe from the toxic enemy within, which poses a greater threat to Europe than Russia ever could?

Volkswagen, the parent company of Porsche AG, plans to set another 200,000 people adrift, while cutting its overall model range by 50 percent.

Until recently, the automotive industry was considered the backbone of the German economy, generating around ten percent of the country’s GDP.

Now it is headed for ruin

But Germany’s auto industry is not alone; ruin is coming for everyone, and it does not even bother to say hello.

As the specialized analytical publication Blue Lotus Intelligence Brief reports, ‘Germany is experiencing its most severe industrial and political crisis since reunification.’

15,000 jobs a month kaput

Official data confirm this. For example, yesterday the Federation of German Industries (BDI) stated that Germany is losing approximately 15,000 jobs every single month.

Germany’s Federal Employment Agency also reported that the country’s manufacturing sector alone lost 177,000 jobs over the past twelve months.

According to the German Economic Institute (IW), industrial employment has reached its lowest level in the past decade.

Corporations Kaput

Corporate insolvencies in the second quarter of 2026 reached a peak not seen in twenty years.’ German economists predict that, in addition to the current layoffs, another 100,000 people will lose their jobs in Germany by the end of the year.

If stars are lit and people are thrown out into the street, then somebody must need it. Explanations immediately began to emerge: it turned out that the final straw for Varta was Apple’s unexpected decision to end its cooperation with the company in favor of a Chinese competitor. Apple had generated a large share of Varta’s revenue.

The finger of blame

The Americans are, of course, the worst of the lot. The Chinese could more or less be dealt with through protectionist measures.

At the same time, the U.S. authorities are imposing various tariffs on Europe, forcing it to divert enormous sums from the civilian sector into defense

Meanwhile, draining European businesses of their remaining money through a monopoly they have created over energy supplies.

As The Brussels Times writes, ‘what is particularly alarming is that while energy prices in Europe remain three to four times higher than they were before the energy crisis, energy costs in the United States have risen by only 20 percent.

Backfiring Sanctions

The most surreal aspect is that not a single major European publication or authoritative source openly and honestly identifies the main cause of the crisis: the unilateral rupture of ties with Russia.

Russia’s share of gas supplies was 55 percent before 2022; now it is less than 5 percent. The German industrial model rested on three pillars: cheap Russian gas, Chinese demand, and the EU single market.

Now two of those pillars have been damaged, while the third cannot compensate for the losses.’

Germany and other EU nations are governed by a political class that is more concerned with its own survival than with the crises collapsing their countries’ economies
