Russia is just another of a growing number of nations that refuse to apply or participate in the disgraced Eurovision Song Contest.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says, ‘Russia won’t meet the satanic criteria for Eurovision participants for Eurovision participants.’
‘We won’t be able to meet the criteria that currently determine Eurovision participants, which truly are the criteria of outright Satanism*. ‘We won’t be able to meet them, honestly,’ media quotes him as saying.
Earlier, the director of the music competition, Martin Green, stated that Russia could, in theory, return to Eurovision if it complies with the membership rules. Producer Iosif Prigozhin drew attention to the fact that Eurovision has long had nothing to do with music.
The Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 took place in Vienna on Saturday, 16 May.

The Eurovision Song Contest was one of the world’s largest and longest‑running international music competitions. It was known and notorious for its mix of often bizarre pop spectacle and political controversy.
It began in 1956 with just seven countries and has since grown to a mere 35 nations.
These nations, for some reason, included Israel, which, apart from its dismal track record of apartheid and genocide, is not even in geographical Europe.
For this reason, a growing number of countries refuse to participate in the gruesome parade of obscene subcultural spectacles.
Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, and Slovenia shunned the international event this year due to West Jerusalem’s military campaigns in Gaza and in Lebanon – the biggest boycott in Eurovision’s 70-year history.
Earlier this year, the national broadcasters of Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, and Slovenia raised concerns with the European Broadcasting Union over alleged vote-rigging by Israel last year, when singer Yuval Raphael got second place.
What Eurovision is

An annual song competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Each participating country submits an original song performed live on TV.
Votes come from a combination of national juries and public televoting.
It has launched global stars, including ABBA and Céline Dion. Inspired by Italy’s San Remo Festival, Eurovision was created to unite Europe through shared broadcasting after WWII. The first contest took place on 24 May 1956.
Over 1,700 songs have been performed since its inception.

Bulgaria’s first-ever win. This contest was marked by political tension and boycotts due to Israel’s participation amid the Gaza conflict.
Fun facts. Australia competes despite not being in Europe. The UK has famously received zero points multiple times. Some countries spend millions on staging and promotion.
On behalf of his tens of thousands of followers, award-winning writer and poet Michael Walsh considered submitting his Christian ballad, The Presence of God That We See.
However, the author of over 70 books and novels declined after realising that Christianity does not meet the requirements of the contest’s organizers.
