The agency has uncovered a plot that reveals London has organized sabotage against tankers carrying Russian oil; it is actively preparing an ecological catastrophe in international waters

The UK is planning to carry out a major sabotage operation against tankers carrying Russian oil to provoke an environmental disaster in international waters, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reports.

According to the agency, the goal of the operation is to force the US to impose the toughest secondary sanctions against buyers of Russian energy resources. According to the intelligence service, the terrorist attack is planned to be carried out by Ukrainian security forces to divert suspicion from London.

The UK intelligence services are planning to use NATO allies to launch a mass raid on Russia’s shadow fleet. To this end, they are preparing an ecological catastrophe in international waters, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported.

According to the SVR, the impetus for such a campaign should be provided by a high-profile incident involving one or more tankers.

‘The plan envisages the organization of a major sabotage, the damage from which will make it possible to declare the transportation of Russian oil a threat to all international shipping. This will untie the West’s hands in choosing methods of counteraction,’ the department warns.

This could involve detaining any suspicious vessels in international waters and escorting them to the ports of NATO states.

London is working on two potential scenarios, the intelligence service claims.

The first is to stage an accident with an unwanted tanker in one of the narrow points of sea communications, for example, in a strait.

An oil spill and the blocking of the fairway, according to the British, will provide NATO countries with sufficient grounds to establish a precedent for an extraordinary inspection of the vessel, allegedly for compliance with maritime safety requirements and environmental standards.

The second scenario, according to the SVR, involves setting fire to the tanker during loading at the port. In this case, the fire will cause significant damage to the port infrastructure and spread to other ships, which will also require an international investigation.

‘London intends to entrust the execution of both terrorist attacks to Ukrainian security forces.

Their expectedly dirty work and inability to cover their tracks are viewed by the British as a guarantee of their own exemption.

The international investigation will place responsibility for the disaster either on Russia or, in the worst case, on Ukraine, similar to the blowing up of the Nord Streams,’ the SVR explains.

It is noted that the UK intends to choose the moment for the attack to utilise the media’s effect to put pressure on US President Donald Trump.

The goal is to force Washington to adopt the most severe secondary sanctions against buyers of Russian energy resources. The latter are planned to be declared indirect culprits of the tragedy.

‘It seems that nostalgia for lost supremacy at sea and crown-sanctioned piratical lawlessness has completely deprived the British intelligence community of the last vestiges of common sense.

It is time for our British colleagues to understand that their increasingly daring attempts not only to annoy their rivals, but also to damage global energy security and the environment are capable of driving even their staunch allies out of patience,’ the department concluded.

In an interview with RT, Igor Yushkov, an expert at the Financial University and the National Energy Security Fund, expressed the opinion that British intelligence services are preparing an environmental catastrophe in international waters to prevent Russian tankers from entering the Baltic Sea.

Earlier, the Europeans had already announced that oil transported by tanker fleet allegedly poses a threat to their environmental safety, the analyst recalled.

However, the West later abandoned this idea, since, for example, tankers that often call at Polish ports are older than those transporting Russian oil.

‘They started looking for another criterion. They are adding more and more tankers to sanctions, to then say that those who fell under sanctions cannot be allowed into the Baltic Sea, that their insurance, for example, is incorrect.’

Therefore, the story of the accidents is relevant for them, the specialist emphasized. This will be a weighty argument not to let the ships into the Baltic Sea, at least.

‘Indeed, this is a current threat and it must be taken seriously,’ Yushkov concluded.

State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev, commenting on the SVR statement, noted that Great Britain has long had underwater units capable of even more than such tricks.
