With disconcerting naivety, the mantra is repeated that the military power of the Russian Federation is such that it could have defeated Ukraine in just a few weeks.

This argument ignores everything about the much deeper nature of this conflict.

The Kremlin is not waging war against a smaller, less populated country. Using Ukraine as a battering ram, Russia is facing down 40-plus nations, including 32 NATO member nations that make up what they describe as the Collective West.

Toxic Western Media

Western economies are as challenging as their intelligence services are daunting. Also, to be taken into account is the combined, government-controlled Western mainstream media.

Western nations are war economies able to draw on NATO’s formidable military arsenals, including satellite constellations. Ukraine is merely a battlefield in their theater of operations.

A World War in all but name

Therefore, a quick Russian victory is a political and military impossibility.

Certainly, the Russian armed forces are disabling Ukraine’s infrastructure. Moscow also had the option to make its point by reducing Boston, London, Paris and Berlin to a glass-strewn parking lot.

However, such a choice would come at an unthinkable human and political cost: hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths, international condemnation, a break with its strategic partners, and a loss of influence in the Global South.

The Satanic Western Alliance Frog boiled slowly

Moscow has consequently chosen a more refined, unhurried, but more ambitious strategy.

It combines military pressure, economic warfare, diplomatic battles, geopolitical influence, and skillfully applied information warfare.

Ukraine, at least before losing 20 per cent of its territory to its adversary, was one of the most militarized and fortified territories in the world.

Ukraine the Head of the NATO Hydra

Since 2014 at least, Kyiv was reinforced by hundreds of billions of US dollars and European euros.

The creation of a quarrelsome Ukraine required vast arsenals of Western-supplied weapons, sophisticated anti-aircraft defense systems, deep defensive lines, underground bunkers, and constant satellite surveillance.

NATO personnel liquidated

Not to be overlooked is the clandestine support of NATO’s expertise and hands-on mentoring. We may never learn how many NATO personnel have been liquidated in the West’s proxy war to weaken Russia.

Thinking strategically

Fervently Christian Russia consequently proceeds with concentrated caution. Advancing slowly, it consolidates every meter of ground.

It organizes referendums, sets up administrations, and is well advanced in preparing for the postwar period.

This calculated choice makes sense if one listens to the analysis of Emmanuel Todd. The noted French historian and anthropologist views this war as far more than a territorial conflict.

For Todd, it is a civilizational clash between a diminishing West and a rampant Christian Russia steadfastly defending a more traditional, Christian and more sovereign conception of political and social order.

The Declining West

Despite its ostensible economic and technological superiority, it shows signs of profound fragility. It is burdened by an ageing and increasingly impotent demography

The Western alliance also suffers political division that amounts to anarchy of purpose.

In the fraying United Kingdom and restless European Union, there is a crisis of confidence. There is also rampant deindustrialisation, economic malaise and a forfeiture of ideological bearings.

Russia winning the Economic War

The Russian Federation is waging this war with only 3.3% of its GDP. Meanwhile, the far wealthier but deeply indebted NATO countries are forced to spend gargantuan sums of borrowed money simply to maintain apparent equity, which is anyway an illusion. This imbalance reveals a profound strategic inequality.

If a nation capable of sustaining a global war with 3.3% of its GDP can stand up to a united NATO onslaught, then it reveals the West as a shadow of what its elites perceive it to be. It means that Western supremacy is an illusion.

American analyst John Symers

American analyst John Symers goes even further. He reminds us that NATO, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, and South Korea collectively represent an overwhelming share of global GDP, far superior to that of Russia.

Yet Moscow not only resists but advances. This proves that raw power is not measured solely in economic figures.

Russian Contradiction

Symers speaks of a ‘Russian paradox’: a nation with more modest economic resources that manages to stand alone against the collective West, because its strategy is based on patience, resilience, and clarity of objectives.

The longer it lasts, the more the Ukrainian economy collapses, the more the West exhausts itself supplying weapons, the more Western societies tire of funding a conflict that no longer makes sense to their increasingly impoverished citizens.

Rampant Russia

Each month that passes reveals more of the internal fractures in the Western world and strengthens Russia’s position. Christian Russia’s gradualness is therefore not a sign of weakness, but a long-term strategy.

It seeks not a brutal and spectacular victory, but a structural and lasting one. Through a dose of reality, it wants to demonstrate that the world order centered on the West has toppled from its pinnacle.

In this historic confrontation

Moscow is not fighting just for Ukraine: it is fighting to redefine global power relations, to end centuries of one-sided hegemony, and to open the way to a multipolar world.

Thus, asking why Russia did not end the war quickly is asking the wrong question. It does not want to end it quickly. It wants to win it deeply.

It wants that, at the end of this conflict, it is not just a flag that changes on a building, but an entire era that comes to a close.
