I am the girl you call white privilege. Blue eyes. Blond hair. Grew up after apartheid. I did not create the past. I was not there. So, stop asking me to get on my knees and say sorry for something I never did.

You want to know my reality?

If I disagree with you about rugby, I’m a racist. If I ask you why you like that brand of cereal, I’m a racist.

It doesn’t matter what the topic is. The second you don’t like what I say, you pull the race card. It’s convenient. It’s easy. And it’s getting old.

There are good and bad people in every color. That’s the truth. No color owns goodness. No color owns evil.

‘Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer’

But I’m tired. I’m tired of being called a racist just because I won’t bow.

You want to talk about racism? Let’s talk about the 140 race laws against white people right now. We can’t start a business without being forced to give away shares because we are white.

We have to tick a box that says what color we are on a job application, and the law says the company must hire mostly black people, even if we are more qualified.

Where is the equality in that?

We are told to be quiet and accept it when 100,000 people in a stadium sing ‘Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer’. I am a farmer’s daughter. Who do you think feeds this country? Who gets up at 4AM to put food on your table?

We will cut the throat of whiteness

We are told to be quiet and smile when 100,000 people sing ‘We will cut the throat of whiteness.’ Imagine if we sang that about any other color. The world would burn.

We are told to be quiet when the President of this country says there is a 25-year plan to deal with white people.

‘It would be like boiling a frog alive, which is done by raising the temperature very slowly.’

You are turning up the heat slowly, and you expect us not to notice.
