One of the most enduring untruths about the Third Reich era is that the ideology considered the Slavic peoples to be a sub-race.
But if one actually does an investigation into this myth, they will find little-to-no proof of the Reich’s supposed anti-Slavism. In fact, they will discover abundant evidence to the contrary.
Rudolf Hess
Was the Deputy Führer of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei from 1933 until his flight and failed attempted peace mission to Scotland in 1941. He was succeeded by Martin Bormann.

A revolution in thought
You would think that, as such a high-ranking and important ideologue in the party who showed absolute loyalty to the Reich leader and to National Socialism, he would share the Führer’s opinion of the Slavic peoples.
Rudolf Hess, the second most powerful man in the NSDAP, stated that neither the Reich nor the NSDAP held hatred towards the Slavic peoples.
Other National Socialist luminaries stated that all Europeans were Aryan. There was extensive recruitment of Slavs into the most elite military formation in history, said army being for Aryans only, and 20% of those who offered their lives for a National Socialist state.
Martin Bormann

Was one of the most devoted followers of National Socialism and Hitler. A direct quote from a Hess-signed document dated 19 April 1937, translated from German into English:
‘The German people want to live and be protected from the outside world. Only the violation of these self-evident rights of a people who cherish their honour could be the cause of hostility.
Thus, our struggle is directed not against the Slavic peoples, who are dominated and oppressed by Bolshevism, but against the world revolution driven by the Comintern (Communist International).
Slavs are Aryans

Germany is not an enemy of the Slavs, but the intolerable and irreconcilable enemy of the international Jew and of the communism they have brought into this world.’
Like the German leader’s public statements on Christianity, Hess’s writing cannot be dismissed as pragmatism.
Slavs Part of a Pan-Aryan Race
By stating that Slavs are not the enemy of Germans and also affirming his empathy for certain Slavic groups (i.e., Russians, Ukrainians, Byelorussians under the yoke of Bolshevism, he proves that National Socialism is indeed a pan-Aryan dogma.
Wilhelm Stuckart in 1935

‘So, when we speak of related blood, we mean the blood of those races that are determinative for the blood of the peoples who since time immemorial have a closed settlement area in (geographical) Europe.
It is now abundantly clear that all Europeans were considered to be Aryan by the National Socialists.
Slavs in the Waffen-SS
There were Slavs in the Waffen-SS as early as 1941, with the creation of the 7th Division ‘Prinz Eugen.’ According to this article from Warfare History Network, ‘the 7th SS was built around a core of Serbian volunteers.’
By 1943, there were Croatian and Bosnian volunteers in the 13th Division ‘Handschar ’; there was the inception of the 1st SS Cossack Cavalry Division, and the founding of the 14th Division Galizien, comprised of Ukrainians.

These are Cossacks in the 1st Cossack Cavalry Division raising a banner that states, ‘in the name of Orthodox Christianity, the faithful sons of the Don go into decisive battle against the Jews.’
National Socialism was both pro-Slavic and Christian, especially since these men were in the SS, where paganism had an, albeit minor, but still notable presence.
Slavs who fought for the Reich
Hundreds of thousands of Hiwis (Soviet citizens who volunteered to help Germany by serving in mostly auxiliary roles), comprised roughly 20% of total Reich manpower on the Eastern front during the war.

Cool Waffen-SS unit emblems. Brown pheasants as the party apparatchiks were callled killed all the people who would have joined the fight against Bolshevism.
