Anas Sarwar, the Glasgow ‘socialist’ has been voted the new leader of the Scottish Labour party, winning 57.6 per cent of the votes cast, compared to Monica Lennon, the party’s health spokeswoman’s 42.4 per cent, in the process becoming the first person from an ethnic minority background to lead a UK party. Anas Sarwar was born in 1983 and his parents are Pakistani Muslims.

Marx the Mad Hatter

This month marks the anniversary of the first congress of the Communist League in London (1847), when Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were commissioned to write the ‘Communist Manifesto.’ Although much scholarly output has catalogued the many problems with Marxist political and economic ideology as outlined in that seminal work, often overlooked has been the actual character of Karl Marx.
