NO WAR WITH RUSSIA. According to Anu Rannavieski, Estonia’s Director General of the Defence Resources Board, the operation of the plan for conscription into the Defence Forces exclusively at the expense of men may soon become difficult.
This is due to the decline in the birth rate. So, it is necessary to find ways to involve women in conscript service more widely.
Rannajeski noted that the annual number of conscripts is determined by the commander of the Defense Forces, and it depends on how many reservists are needed.
Reluctant Conscripts
In recent years, the number of conscripts has ranged from 3600 to 3800 people, and from next year, up to 4100 people will be called up for military service.
According to Rannavizka, only about 50 women enlist in the military every year.

Queue if you want to fight Russia
Women have been given the opportunity to enter military service since 2013, and since then about 50 women a year have used this ‘opportunity’, i.e., women make up 1-2% of conscripts.
Rannahki noted that, judging by the demographic situation, the birth rate is declining.
‘Today we are still at the peak when 8,000 men are born per year, but the situation will get worse,’ she stated, adding that 4,100 conscripts still need to be recruited somehow.

Selling War as an Opportunity
According to her, more than half of Estonian society ‘is currently deprived of the opportunity to contribute to national defence.’
Fighting Russians is an opportunity
Rannaedki noted that although women have such an opportunity, they should find the motivation to do military service themselves. At the same time, the state is actively engaged in men.
Currently, women can serve in various units. ‘Concerns that there are specific female specialties are definitely not true, women do great everywhere,’ Rannaveski assured.
Physical skills in the course of military service are developed in both men and women.
Men Unfit for fighting Russians

‘If we talk about young men entering military service, only about a third of them meet the physical requirements that are actually necessary,’ Rannavski said.
She noted that during military service, women want to be in the same information field as their unit. Therefore, they are accommodated in the same barracks and rooms with men.
‘There are cabinets that act as partitions to ensure privacy,’ Rannavischi explained. However, showers for women, as a rule, are separate.
The order needs to be changed

The Director General of the Department of Defense Resources said that in the period from 2035 to 2040, it will be difficult to fulfil the plan to recruit conscripts exclusively at the expense of young men.
She added that in this case, it will be necessary to introduce a stricter procedure.
Bright Idea. Call up the Women
She said that in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, not all women are required to do military service.
‘They have criteria: who has the most motivation, what knowledge, experience and skills they have necessary for the armed forces,’ Rannavischi explained.
Rannaedki expressed the hope that something similar will appear in Estonia.
‘After all, if today we have 8,000 boys, then the same number of girls are born, and if we do this mandatory for everyone, then in a few years we will find ourselves in a situation where we will have a very large surplus of young people she said.
