It isn’t necessary to study specialist tomes to find evidence of continuous climatic change and its impact on land and sea formations.

Whilst strolling in Spain, I crunch beneath my feet indications of terrestrial change caused by climatic modification that has taken place as recently as 1,600 BC

Although higher than sea level, my feet crunch seashells that are far from the coastline, which today is located 20 miles away.

In terms of Earth’s cycle, these outer skeletons of soft-bodied living creatures like snails, clams and oysters lived in the sea just 2.6 million years ago.

I once strolled beside a river in Wales. Etched into the multi-clay and sand-tier embankments is proof of terrestrial modification that took place over millions of years.

Britain in 1,600 BC was physically attached to Europe. One only has to glance at a world atlas to see evidence of massive continental drift and changed river formations.

The link between climatic change and terrestrial modification is so clear that it simply cannot be disputed.

These climate changes occurred over millions of years and took place long before the fossil-fuel burning Homo Sapiens made an impact on the environment. Therefore, it is ludicrous to suggest that man is responsible for or can modify climate change.

However, wherever there is a fast buck to be made, the political class, their camp followers and on-message collaborating media never miss a trick.

As Winston Churchill once said, ‘Never let a good crisis go to waste.’

Collectively, every year the political class raid the coffers filled by their unhappy tax slaves. They spend hundreds of billions of euro/dollars averting what they speciously claim to be the consequences of manmade climate change.

Accordingly, the political culprits jump on the gravy train by investing in the climate change-related industries. A good example, but hardly unique, was the artful dodger Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States.

The founder and chairman of the Climate Change Reality Project, Gore was worth just 1.7 million dollars when he left public office in 2001.

Today, Al Gore’s fortune is estimated at $300 to $400 million. The former politician hasn’t yet saved the planet and is unlikely to do so. However, he did inspire many fellow passengers to jump on the climate change gravy train.

Of course, the phenomenon needs to be accepted and cost-effectively dealt with. Unstoppable climate change and its significance are a fact of life.

There is a well-known adage that marks the difference between an optimist and a pessimist. The optimist replies that the glass is half full, whereas the pessimist complains that the glass is half empty.

The pivot from one climate to another will inevitably be both negative and positive.

This year, the northern hemisphere benefited from or suffered record-breaking high temperatures. Quick to take advantage, the Russians opened up the Northern Sea Route to facilitate cheaper and faster trade between the continents.

Russia, Canada and North America are set to prosper from global warming; don’t try to stop it. The trick is to intelligently perceive and manage climate change for the benefit of mankind.

This isn’t achieved by countering perceived negative costs of climate change but by foreseeing and adapting to the positive aspects of a shifting climate.

The billions invested in the futile pursuit of bringing to an end the unstoppable have so far been misdirected.

From the sublime to the ridiculous, much of the investment has had the opposite effect to that intended.

The Law of Unintended Consequences is an adage stating that foolish interventions in complex systems, particularly in government policies, almost always produce unanticipated, often undesirable outcomes alongside or instead of intended results.

Under the European Green Deal, the EU have implemented unfeasible directives which have served only to make matters worse.

Chasing rainbows, the intention is to reach ‘climate neutrality’ by 2030; now just 36 months away. The core intention is to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55 per cent.

A major initiative is to phase out fossil-fuelled vehicles and nuclear power. Simultaneously, investing in and expanding wind, solar and other renewable generation capacity to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Again, unintended consequences come to mind. These profitable, high-minded but futile initiatives make matters worse. They do so by bankrupting the taxpaying cash cows feeding the alternatives to fossil-fuel-dependent economies.  

Germany is far from being alone in switching to a loftily phrased green agenda. What has been achieved so far? Bankrupt industry, soaring unemployment and government ineptitude.

Nowhere is this more apparent than Spain, which in Europe has successfully kept pace with the green agenda. Yet, Spain suffers from over-dependency on tourism, a floundering economy and increasing social unrest.
