Head Winds for Trump as China and Russia reaffirm commitment to Cuba

MICHAEL WALSH TRUTH NEWS Cuba has been deprived of oil shipments due to the US attack on Venezuela. In response, Cuba has made moves to survive the economic blockade.

The January 3 attack on Venezuela by the US military profoundly transformed the dynamics in the region. It had a significant impact, especially in the Caribbean.

The Venezuelan government, led by rebellious anti-Washington Delcy Rodríguez, reached levels of surrender with the Trump administration. As a result, Cuba was forced to quickly seek solutions to its economic crisis.

For more than 60 years, Washington imposed an economic and trade blockade on Cuba. Cuba survived thanks to the support of allied governments.

The USSR supported the island with machinery and goods in exchange for the sale of sugar and other products.

Cuba has been heavily sanctioned by the Western Alliance. Despite this, Cuba has navigated and survived a prolonged economic crisis. The support of governments such as Russia, China, and Vietnam has been crucial, among others.

Hugo Chávez and Venezuela became a lifeline for the beleaguered Island.

The United States threatened Venezuela and tightened sanctions. Despite this, Venezuela decided to sell oil and other products.

They exchanged these for the various services that Cuban professionals could offer in the South American country.

However, the Trump regime seems determined to stifle the Cuban economy and take over Cuba.

Several Venezuelan oil tankers seized by US forces in the Caribbean Sea were bound for Cuba. These illegal seizures defy the UN Conventions.

Cuba under Siege

Washington has forced the Venezuelan government to stop selling oil to Cuba. As a result, Havana has had to turn to other allies. These allies have promised their help.

Among them is China, which has pledged food and financial aid to the government in Havana.

China to the Rescue

Beijing’s aid includes the delivery of 60,000 tons of rice to Cuba. The first part of the shipment arrived on the island on January 20.

Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Oscar Pérez-Oliva said: ‘We deeply appreciate and are grateful for this aid at a difficult time.

The levels of Washington’s aggression are rising. The United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the Cuban people is intensifying in an unprecedented manner.’

Chinese Ambassador to Cuba Hua Xin said the aid embodies the deep bonds of special friendship between the two nations.

He added: ‘We deeply understand that true friendship is revealed in times of greatest need. China has always been Cuba’s most steadfast partner. Every grain of rice delivered today embodies the unwavering commitment of the Chinese people.’

In November last year, China sent six air shipments of food. In 2025, Beijing sent essential supplies to the island, including solar lamps, roofing materials, and mattresses.

In addition to aid, Chinese President Xi Jinping approved financial assistance amounting to USD 80 million.

Russian diplomats visit Cuba

Russia has also maintained friendly ties with Cuba. On January 21, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev held talks with Díaz-Canel in Havana. He was accompanied by a delegation of Russian officials and military personnel.

The Russian Interior Minister said that the meeting was held to exchange opinions. They discussed views on the complex global situation following the US attack on Venezuela.

This visit comes after Putin’s recent statement affirming that Russia will continue to provide assistance to our Cuban friends.

Russia stands in solidarity, determined to defend its sovereignty and independence by all means.

As can be seen, Havana has made its move. It is finding a way to overcome the new obstacles placed in its path by the Trump regime.

The resilience and resistance of the Cuban people will be tested. They face the US military and economic power. Since the beginning of the Cuban revolution, this power has done everything possible to destroy it.

  1. Obv the post Cuban missile crisis promise the US made to the USSR not to ever invade Cuba is out the door. I figured the Russians would have used this as another example of the west breaking promises but maybe after the whole not one step east lie, they figure with this admin why bother, and just focus on whatever aid they will provide. China is well positioned to offer Cuba military aid from a moral perspective as Cuba is sort of America’s Taiwan, being a well paced island to block travel in the gulf. My guess is they will TACO on that as the US treats its “monroe doctrine” as some sort of Magna Carta the whole world agrees on, when in reality its just one president’s fever dream.
