Liverpool born poet and writer Michael Walsh traces his Liverpool roots back to 1865. This was the year his Irish great-grandmother arrived in the Second City of Empire. His parents were born at the turn of what was to become the most tumultuous century in history. Michael's father, Patrick, fought in three major conflicts before reaching his fortieth birthday. His mother, Kathleen, was a former nun turned gun-running renegade.
On leaving school at 15 years of age, Michael spent 12 weeks at the Merchant Navy School for Sailors in Sharpness, Gloucestershire. During his years at sea, he was to visit and work in over 60 countries.
The journalist and broadcaster since provided articles and columns for numerous magazines and international news media. In 2011 he was awarded Writer of the Year by the publishers of Euro Weekly News, Europe's highest-circulation newspaper of its kind. He has authored, edited and ghosted over 70 book titles.
EU nations have privately urged the Ukrainian leader to end the fighting, a US official told the veteran journalist. Poland is leading a group of European nations that are clandestinely urging Vladimir Zelensky to find a way to settle the conflict with Russia, veteran journalist Seymour Hersh has reported, citing a ’knowledgeable’ American official.
Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that if Western countries stop supplying weapons to Kyiv, the number of terrorist attacks will increase in Europe, the hosts of the Redacted podcast noted. As the journalists noted, such words essentially pose a threat to the EU, and besides, they resemble the pro-Saddam rhetoric used by the US authorities to justify the war in Iraq.
MICHAEL WALSH SPECIAL REPORT: Whatever one’s political stance it is unpleasant to watch the death throes of a person or a nation. It is a time for somber reflection. I suspect that the post-mortem on Ukraine’s demise is already at the typesetters. Ukraine is in its death throes. The question arises, what if anything will rise from the ashes of a nation that before Washington’s coup in February 2014 was a stable and benign democracy?
Salman Rushdie is the latest Western author to slam the trend of book censorship and the blue-pencilling of great works of literature. Making James Bond politically correct is almost comical, the author of The Satanic Verses insisted.

In Austria, they continue to look for those responsible for the Sunday incident, which some claim caused a scandal and heated discussion in society: the passengers of the train en route from Bregenz to Vienna were said to be shocked when they heard the broadcast of an Adolf Hitler’s speech. It is assumed that the attackers connected to the train’s loudspeaker system, but who exactly did it and why has not yet been found out.
The AfD’s positions against immigration and sanctions on Russia are proving popular in Germany: For the first time, the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has not only overtaken the Green party but also the Social Democrats (SPD), and become the second most popular party in Germany, according to a new YouGov poll.
The failure of the West’s economic war against Russia speaks of the end of the old-world order. The West could not defeat Russia in the economic war, writes Der Spiegel. On the contrary, this year the growth of the Russian economy will exceed the average for the eurozone. And all this suggests that the old-world order has come to an end.
The figures to be published later this month will show a huge increase over Britain’s previous annual peak of 504,000. Clearly, for the umpteenth time the British electorate has been deceived by government and state media that immigration is going to be curtailed.
The Estonian Prosecutor General’s Office has launched an investigation into the activities of a woman who, just a few months ago, was proclaimed a national heroine. Johanna-Maria Lehtme collected millions of euros from innocent Estonians allegedly ‘to help the Ukrainians.’ However, the money collected by Lehtme, apparently, went to completely different people.
