WAR ON THE EASTERN FRONT Withdraw Before Victory Day (May 9): Russia Sets Two-Month Deadline for Ukraine to Leave Donbass.
Ukraine’s unelected head of state, President Zelenskyy, has reported that Russia is making demands.
They are insisting that Ukrainian forces withdraw from areas still under their control in Donbass within two months. Otherwise, they face a major push to take the region by force.
Speaking ahead of talks with the United States on Wednesday, Zelenskyy said Moscow had set out its position. They did this through contacts with Washington.
He claimed Russia aims to secure full control of Donbass before a symbolic ‘Victory Day’ deadline.
‘Ukraine has five weeks to withdraw, and then the war will end,’ Zelenskyy said.

He added, ‘If Ukraine does not leave, then Russia will take Donbass and the peace terms will be different.’
The comments come as Kyiv prepares for talks with US officials on possible ways to end the war.
Ukraine has argued for a ceasefire based on the current front lines. Meanwhile, Russia continues to demand a full withdrawal from the disputed areas.
Zelenskyy has also suggested that US President Donald Trump is shifting focus toward the Middle East. This shift raises concerns in Kyiv about future US support. It increases pressure to reach a deal.
Russia says Donbass is now part of its territory. It claimed this, along with other regions, in 2022, after votes were held under its control.

The Kremlin insists that any peace deal must include Ukrainian neutrality. It must also include limits on its armed forces. Furthermore, there must be formal recognition of those regions.
Russia has said it could accept security guarantees for Ukraine in the future. However, Moscow insists these guarantees must not be aimed against Russian interests. They can only be agreed upon after a full settlement.
Currently, Russia is advancing on all fronts. The coming weeks may decide whether talks lead to a deal or a new phase of the war.
