JUST HOW DEEP IS THE DEEP STATE?

MICHAEL WALSH CORRESPONDENT AMERICAN FREE PRESS: US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard recently explained why the administration’s fight against the deep state is slow.

Gabbard described the deep state as government insiders who resist all efforts to rein in their power.

What exactly is the enigmatic deep state or hidden government pulling the strings behind the supposed government?

Edward Snowden, a former National Security Agency contractor and whistleblower, explains, “The deep state is simply the career government.

“It’s the people who are in the same offices who outlive and outlast presidencies. They’ve seen Republicans, they’ve seen Democrats, they don’t really care, and they give that same briefing again and again, and they get good at it.”

Gabbard’s remarks came after the Trump administration’s controversial decision not to release the Epstein list. Officials have denied the existence of any document naming alleged high-profile associates of the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The decision drew criticism from some commentators, who see it as evidence of the deep state’s enduring influence.

The tentacles of America’s deep state are not exclusive to the United States.

Former British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) went to great lengths to warn that all great events have been distorted, most of the important causes concealed, some of the principal characters never appear, and all who figure are so misunderstood and misrepresented that the result is a clear mystification.

“So, you see, my dear Coningsby, that the world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes.”

During World War II, Britain’s Prime Minister Winston Churchill referred to “the existence of a high cabal that has brought unprecedented bloodshed throughout human history.”

British Admiral Sir Barry Domville (1878-1971), a member of the Royal Navy, served as Assistant Secretary of the Imperial Defence Committee before World War I.

“From that time onwards, I had a strong suspicion that there was some mysterious power at work behind the scenes, controlling the actions of the figures visibly taking part in the government of the country.

“I had not the least idea whence this power emanated, nor could I gauge its influence. I was in far too humble a position to make such lofty discoveries. Still, the feeling persisted. We always vaguely referred to this hidden control amongst ourselves as The Treasury.”

I recall an ‘off the mike’ tête-à-tête with renowned BBC anchor Jeremy Paxman. He told me of photographs of an apparently naked Liberal Party leader, Jeremy Thorpe, sitting up in bed with an unattired adolescent youth.

“There isn’t a pressman who hasn’t seen these pictures but not an editor who would dare to publish them,” the newscaster elucidated.

One can draw one’s conclusions as to why such intimacies remain on file but unpublished.

In my view, I imagine that with few exceptions, politicians, on

being elected, and indeed, all influencers, fall prey to subversive actors who are well-versed in the dark arts of discovering human weaknesses.

These may be financial or sexual indiscretions waiting to be created or exploited with the intention of compromising their target to the point of blind obedience.

One recalls the case of John D. Profumo CBE, a British politician whose career ended in 1963 after a sexual relationship with the 19-year-old model Christine Keeler in 1961.

The honey trap scandal, which became known as the Profumo affair, led to his resignation from the Conservative government of Harold Macmillan.

Great politicians are occasionally candid about the deep state.  President Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924): “Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men’s views confided to me privately.

“Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it.”

Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt (1858 – 1919): “Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people.”

President John F. Kennedy, in a Press Statement at the Waldorf Astoria in 1961, clarified his thoughts on America’s deep state:

“We are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence.

“Its preparations are concealed, not published, its mistakes are buried, not headlined, and its dissenters are silenced, not praised; no expenditure is questioned, no secret revealed.”

J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1973), the author of The Lord of the Rings and much else, was forthright: The main mark of modern governments is that we do not know who governs.

“We see the politician and not his backer; still less the backer of the backer; or, what is most important of all, the banker of the backer.’

Perhaps when also considering the ongoing fuss about Jeffrey Epstein, we can leave the last word to the Israeli Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations, aka MOSSAD. “By way of deception thou shalt do war.” You can share this story on social media:

  1. Margaret Thatcher’s fav. show was Yes Minister. the Deep State is just above the level of Sir Humphrey the career mandarin. Disraeli would better have just named his own Boss, Rothschild.
