The claim was generally dismissed as Nazi propaganda. Recently disclosed evidence from Soviet sources, however, suggests that Moscow’s foreign policy was not governed by neutrality when Europe went to war in 1939.

Monument Tribute to Victims of the Soviet Gulag Vandalized

In the Perm Territory of post-Soviet Russia, unknown saboteurs demolished a memorial in memory of Lithuanians and Poles exiled here for slavery during the period of Soviet political repressions. The monument was erected seven years ago at the cemetery of the abandoned special settlement of Galyashor and did not have official status. The burial ground was looked after by residents of the neighbouring village, descendants of the repressed and human rights activists.

WORLD WAR II FOCUS: In 1940 An Austrian Jewish publisher named Goldschmidt retreated to England.  Alas, it was a frying pan into the fire.  This legitimate citizen of Hitler’s Germany in England was considered an alien and promptly arrested.  Perhaps he could be forgiven for wishing he had remained in Austria where Jewish publishers were in truth not persecuted.
