Press-ganged soldiers who fight only to escape poverty

World War II veterans welcome the respect that comes with their once having been a member of the armed forces. This is a normal human trait but chances are they were not volunteers. Conscripts, many of them in their teens, were press-ganged into the armed forces. If there was genuine enthusiasm for the war then conscription would be neither necessary nor desirable.

The Casket and Ceremony of the Unknown Warrior

The casket of the Unknown Warrior was made of the oak timbers of trees from Hampton Court Palace. The casket was banded with iron and a crusader’s sword chosen by King George V personally, from the Royal Collection, was affixed to the top and surmounted by an iron shield bearing the inscription ‘A British Warrior who fell in the Great War 1914–1918 for King and Country’.

Field-Marshall Erwin Rommel (1891 ~ 1944) was a German general and military theorist. Popularly known as the Desert Fox, the career serviceman served as field marshal in the Wehrmacht (Defense Force) of the Third Reich during World War II, as well as earlier serving in the Reichswehr of the Weimar Republic, and the army of Imperial Germany (1871 ~ 1918).

With Hapless Allies like NATO who needs Enemies

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) appears to be oddly equipped to defend Europe from the Irish let alone the might of Federal Russia or China. Routed and in full retreat from Afghanistan after 20 years of hapless intervention during which time the Stone Age reverted to the Iron Age recent interventions suggest NATO could stamp the same fate on Europe.
