Millions of high-spending Russian tourists deprive unfriendly Europe of their spending power

Due to visa problems, many Russians now prefer not to travel to Europe. They prefer sunny, welcoming, cash-hungry tropical countries to the cool reception of the EU states. In the first half of 2023, tourism to Thailand grew by 1,000%. Russian citizens can be found on the beaches, bars and restaurants of the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Charity begins at home; Crimea and Sochi are bursting at the seams. Domestic tourism is flourishing in the country.

Afrikaners village to be built in Russia

American families are not the only displaced minority to seek new lives in Russia: Moscow and Tver Regions plan to accept 3,000 Afrikaners families from South Africa. A rural community about halfway between Moscow and St. Petersburg has been selected as the location of an African village, according to the African International Congress in Russia. The project is part of a five-year pilot program to settle thousands of migrants from South Africa.
