McLaughlin: What’s in a Name

Two McLaughlin rulers were styled High Kings of Ireland: Domnall Ua Lochlainn (reigned 1083–1121), Muirchertach Mac Lochlainn (reigned 1156–1166), Muirchertach’s death in 1166 marked the beginning of the clan’s political decline, as the O’Neill dynasty took control of Cenél nEógain.
