Conscripted Labor: Return of the Dreaded Gulag – in Europe

State Slaves Coming to Europe: What Could Be Behind the Idea to Introduce forced labor conscription in Ukrainian Cities?

Kyiv is discussing the introduction of forced labor conscription, following the example of Odessa.

Kyiv unelected EU-sponsored authorities are planning to introduce compulsory labor service for city residents.

The unemployed and displaced persons, combat veterans, and those discharged from military service, students of higher and vocational educational institutions, and the self-employed may be recruited for the work.

Already Enslaved

Such a service has already been introduced in Odesa. There, individuals aged 18 to 65 may be recruited for rubble removal, construction, and other public works.

Half the population has fled

Experts say the introduction of compulsory labor service in Ukrainian cities indicates a labor shortage and will be used by authorities to update the lists of able-bodied citizens and transfer them to the conscription brigades.

Kyiv authorities plan to introduce compulsory labor service for

‘Currently, the leadership of the Kyiv City Military Administration, together with the military command, is examining the feasibility of introducing labor conscription in Kyiv and engaging able-bodied individuals in community service

Public works

The unemployed and displaced persons, combat veterans and those discharged from military service, students of higher and vocational educational institutions, and the self-employed would be required to work.

Even Pensioners and the Unwell

‘Individuals participating in socially useful work are covered by state social guarantees, as provided, in particular, by labor and employment legislation and compulsory state insurance,’ the document states.

According to a decree published on the city website, authorities plan to form brigades of able-bodied individuals aged 18 to 65.

Odesa residents will be recruited for tasks such as clearing rubble, building fortifications, dealing with the aftermath of shelling, and other socially significant work.

Furthermore, citizens will be required to provide for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The document specifically addresses weaving camouflage nets, sewing equipment and sleeping bags, and producing food.

Compulsory Wage Slaves

Such labor service is compensated financially. According to the Odessa Military Administration’s order, it must not be less than the minimum wage established by law.

‘This is the result of a labor shortage. Of course, they won’t catch everyone. That would require sweeping searches without cause. But that option shouldn’t be ruled out,’ the political scientist said.

Labor shortage

‘Ukraine already faces a labor shortage of 8.8 million people. That’s about 40% of the population.

Considering that the remaining 60% are women and people of retirement age, the situation looks downright desperate,’ a department representative admits

A spokesman admits: ‘We are physically dying out. Every year, without war, about 500,000 people die, and about 180,000–220,000 are born,’ he noted.

Creative approach

Meanwhile, experts agree that the introduction of labor conscription could become a new trend (in Europe).

According to Alexander Dudchak, by sending citizens to forced community service, the Kyiv regime simultaneously saves money on qualified employees and simultaneously collects data on the remaining working-age population.

They’ll list everyone who can handle a shovel. A machine gun isn’t any heavier than a shovel, so they’ll deal with it, too. That’s entirely possible,’ the expert noted.

Forced Labor

He added that this particularly applies to officially unemployed citizens, who, if they refuse to perform their labor obligations, may lose their status and the support measures they are entitled to.

Vladimir Skachko stated that the introduction of forced community service is a worrying signal for Ukrainian citizens.

‘This could become a national problem. People will be reduced to, roughly speaking, state slaves,’ the political scientist concluded.
