In a disturbing mimicry of the outbreak of World War I, the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran has morphed into a multi-front conflict with a probability of spreading to further regions.
As the conflict threatens to escalate and become drawn-out, whether it will turn nuclear is the question that concentrates the minds.
If so, which of the adversaries will be the first to press the mutually assured destruction button?
The Islamic Republic

The Islamic Republic has long contended that the nuclear option is counterproductive and, anyway, is contrary to the Islamic doctrine.
Islamic reasoning explicitly forbids the use of weapons of mass destruction and indiscriminate slaughter. The killing of non-combatants is proscribed.
There is more or less a clearly defined obligation to distinguish between civilians and non-combatants. This includes the prohibition of willful destruction and the use of biological weapons.
Islam. Permissible
Still, some clerics argue that, as a weapon of deterrence, the nuclear and related options are permissible.
This and much else drives a coach and horses through the Islamic non-nuclear dogma.
Set against unfolding events, any interpretation of this canon leaves us with an ambiguity that would baffle Solomon.
To Western thinking, the claim doesn’t appear credible. Domestic terrorist attacks and larger conflicts in which the Islamic nations have become involved prove that the creed is either not adhered to or is broken at whim.
The United States

As the United States gathers up the bunting to celebrate its 250th birthday, it is well to remember that the indomitable Persian Empire is currently celebrating its 2,500-year birthday bash.
No nation survives such a period and longer as a cultural entity without resilience and a no-holds-barred determination to survive whatever the costs.
Israel or Washington
Besides, Islamic minds will be under no illusions. If Tehran possesses or is likely to acquire nuclear status from any quarter, Washington and Israel may pre-emptively revert to the Hiroshima or Nagasaki solution regardless of consequences.
Neither the maverick Jewish State nor the United States nation has any moral or military qualm about nuking the Tehran metropolis, made up of 10 million inhabitants.
That Washington would activate the nuclear option is unlikely. Their doing so would turn the birthday nation into a dysfunctional pariah state.

Harsh Russian or Chinese response
Besides, aware of the domino effect, if Washington initiates the nuclear option, it may well trigger a harsh Russian or Chinese response.
Although Westerners are media-conditioned to thinking of the conflict as an Israeli-American affair, the latter is unquestionably the dog’s tail.
The Jewish State
A real fear is that, facing a threat to its existence, Israel may pull the short straw by nuking Iran without forewarning.
For decades, Israel has craved wider regional hegemony, which, with Iran’s presence and banal influence, is an impossibility.

For this reason, under the premiership of the messianic Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel initiated the current conflict. Indeed, the present war is being waged entirely for Israel’s interests, not the interests of the United States or its allies.
Missing Persons Bureau
Interestingly, the notable absence in this Israeli-initiated war is the nonappearance of Washington’s NATO member allies. Few could have foreseen the United States being abandoned by its partners.
Europeans, the United Kingdom, and former dominions situated further afield, are well aware of the lebensraum reason for Israel’s commencement and progress of the war on Iran.
This is not our war; the chorus line sings. Posterity may record that it was a great pity for mankind that Washington didn’t sing from the same hymn sheet.
Europe Vulnerable

If drawn into the war, Europe and the European Union economically and militarily would be far more vulnerable than the United States.
Ironically, Britain, the European Union and its far-flung allies are as much victims of Israel’s war as is the United States and, incongruously, Iran itself.
Understandably, America’s allies want to play no part in Israel’s territorial ambitions.
Under economic siege and victim of their self-inflicted past vanities, the hapless UK and the European Union have more than enough on their plates.
Washington’s economic war on Russia has reduced Europe’s 27 nations to panhandler status, with the UK acting as the woebegone hound.

Orwell’s Code
As George Orwell surmised, the English don’t see the writing on the wall until their backs are up against it.
The much-lampooned Donald Trump is hopefully not too late in reading the writing on the Wailing Wall located in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Towards the end of his life, Professor Frederick Lindemann, Winston Churchill’s closest adviser throughout World War II, forewarned.
The end of the white man

‘Do you know what the future historians will regard as the most important event of this age? It will not be Hitler and the Second World War. It will not be the release of nuclear energy, and it will not be the menace of Communism. It will be the abdication of the White man.’
Should Israel’s territorial ambitions prevail, then the misled and misinformed, politically impotent peoples of the Western Alliance will assuredly witness the finality of the European peoples both in the cradle of civilization and throughout its geographical diaspora.
