The Czech authorities are investigating anti-Israel sabotage in Pardubice after reports that a free Palestine from Occupation group targeted links to Israeli weapons production.

A fire broke out overnight at an industrial complex in Pardubice, a city located roughly 120 kilometres east of Prague.

Emergency crews responded swiftly to the blaze, which engulfed a storage hall and spread to a nearby structures. According to the fire services, no injuries were reported despite the incident’s massive scale.

The material damage is significant. The nature of the site has also raised concerns among officials. This situation is prompting a broader inquiry into the cause of the fire.

Initial reports from authorities indicated that investigators were examining whether the incident was accidental or deliberate. As more information emerged, the case quickly took on wider political and security dimensions.

Later, a group that refers to itself as The Earthquake Faction claimed responsibility for the operation.

In a communiqué published on Friday, the group, describing itself as an ‘internationalist underground network that targets key sites critical to the Zionist entity,’ stated:

The land continues to bleed under Israeli bombs in Occupied Palestine. Bombs also fall across West Asia. Because of this, the ground must continue to shake under the feet of the sponsors of occupation.

‘We aim to destroy all limbs of empire from within, by any means effective,’ they added.

The group wrote that they targeted Elbit Systems’ Centre of Excellence on March 20. They stated it was newly built in collaboration with LPP. This center services the global expansion of ‘Israel’s’ biggest weapons producer.

LPP Holding is a Czech defense company that confirmed that one of its buildings was affected by the fire.

The company has since denied any operational ties to Israeli weapons production. However, LPP announced plans in 2023 to cooperate with Israeli firm Elbit Systems on drone manufacturing.

‘The Earthquake Faction intervened while the development, production, and training center were empty. They destroyed its equipment and set the factory ablaze,’ the group wrote. ‘No one was harmed.’

The group added that the targeted ‘Centre of Excellence’ was where weaponry was developed to be used to massacre the people of Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, and throughout West Asia daily. 

‘Elbit Systems and their accomplices obscure and hide their business of bloodshed across the world. Wherever they do this, we will come for them,’ the communiqué read.

The Earthquake Faction continued, ‘We are in the belly of the beast, surrounded by the stench of evil.

The technology, weaponry, and capital needed to maintain the imperial and Zionist violence are all within our reach.

The Earthquake Faction will shake the ground under the boots of the colonizers. Even if an atom’s weight of their evil remains, we will strike it out.’

‘There is no time to beg the complicit international governments. We will not waste our breath asking nicely,’ the group wrote. ‘Instead, we will take necessary action to quash their means to kill.’

Czech police initially confirmed they were reviewing public claims. These claims were made by what they called a ‘concrete group’.

They did not name any organization. As the investigation progressed, authorities escalated the case.

Security services are now involved, with investigators examining the incident under legal provisions related to ‘terrorism’. Interior Minister Lubomir Metnar stated, ‘Based on what we know so far, it is likely. The incident may be related to a terrorist attack.’

The incident has prompted a swift reaction from Czech leadership. Prime Minister Andrej Babis announced plans. He will convene a meeting of the state security council. They will assess the situation and determine appropriate responses.

The move reflects growing concern within government circles over the possibility of politically motivated acts targeting industrial or defense-linked infrastructure.

The case also underscores the broader security challenges facing European states. These challenges arise amid heightened polarization over the war on Gaza. Additionally, there are global repercussions.
