When I was living in Liverpool, I returned home late at night. As soon as I opened my front door, I heard my telephone ringing.

I got to my phone too late. The caller (the famous singer, Charlie Landsborough) had finally placed his phone back on its cradle. However, Charlie left a note on my answering machine.

I had met Charlie when he was performing at the Atlantic Inn situated on Liverpool’s Dock Road. In his message, the internationally famous balladeer expressed his admiration for my poetry. He also thanked me for my collection of maritime and romantic verse.

Who Is Charlie Landsborough?

Charles Alexander Landsborough was born on 26 October 1941 in Wrexham, Wales. Charlie is now 84 years of age. He was raised in Birkenhead; in fact, he lived very close to Michael Walsh’s home in Rock Ferry.

Charlie was active from 1970 to 2019, when he finally retired from touring. His success as a balladeer came late, but he made a remarkable impact and earned millions of fans.

He performed for decades. His major success came in 1994 with the emotional ballad ‘What Colour Is the Wind’. This song became a signature piece and a major hit in Ireland.

After that, he became one of the UK’s top country acts, especially popular in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK country circuit
