Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez responds sharply to Trump. Trump had threatened to cut off all trade with his country. This happened because his country refused to support the Iran war.
‘We are not going to be accomplices to something bad for the world.’
‘Very often, great wars start with a chain of events. These events spiral out of control due to miscalculations. Technical failures and unforeseen circumstances also contribute to this spiral.
We must learn from history. We cannot play Russian roulette with the fate of millions,’ Sánchez said in a televised speech.
‘It’s not even clear what the goals are of those who launched the first attack,’ he stated.
So far, the only goal seems to be inflicting mass death on Iranian men, women, and children while U.S. soldiers are sent home in flag-draped caskets.
This is an illegal war that will accomplish nothing beyond further destabilizing the Middle East.

Sánchez warned against repeating the mistakes of the past and drew direct comparisons with the ultimately failed U.S. invasion of Iraq that resulted in mass death, cost trillions of dollars, and led to the rise of ISIS.
Sánchez boiled his country’s position down to one very simple idea: ‘No to war.’
At one point in his speech, Sánchez made a clear reference to Trump’s threat to end all trade with Spain. This followed Spain’s decision to eject American aircraft from its military bases. He stated that Spain will ‘not be complicit in something that is bad for the world.
A war that is also contrary to our values and interests, simply out of fear of reprisals from someone.’

‘But some of the European countries, like Spain, have been terrible,’ said Trump. ‘In fact, I told Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to cut off all dealings with Spain. Spain, first of all, it started when every European nation, at my request, paid 5%, which they should be doing.’
‘And Spain didn’t do it. And now Spain actually said that we can’t use their bases,’ whined Trump. ‘And that’s all right. We could use their bases if we want. We could just fly in and use it.’
‘Nobody is going to tell us not to use it. But we don’t have to. But they were unfriendly.
And so, I told him that we don’t want to,’ he went on. ‘Spain has absolutely nothing that we need other than great people. They have great people. But they don’t have great leadership.’
Clearly, his threats didn’t work. Spain is standing strong!
