‘Many had been inducted by their countries secret government organisations to spy or provide information. In many cases journalists had even volunteered.’

John Pilger Australian Journalist. ‘We have got to stop using the term mainstream (media). It is actually an extreme.

‘What could be more extreme than institutions that incite rapacious wars, deception about economic policy, what could be more extreme than that? There is nothing mainstream about that.’

Insight: A study by the Associated Press’s Media Insight Project showed that only 6 percent of Americans had a great deal of trust in the mainstream news. The United States ranks last in media trust among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries. 

Sputnik International June 26, 2021. Only 29 percent of American respondents said they trust the news, compared to 54 percent in Brazil and 39 percent in Indonesia.

Fernando Casado, Spanish Analyst and Legal Expert. ‘Some journalists who are actually quite open-minded and are aware of the real situation but have no choice but to write what is expected of them by their editors in order to make both ends meet and have a decent salary.’

The Journalists Forum in St Petersburg. At a mainstream media journalists’ seminar’s theme was how the professionals might respond to a disappearing readership and loss of credibility.  One delegate remarked:

‘There is no such thing as neutral journalism’. Another explained that journalists are now ‘soldiers of communication’ with the emphasis being on the term soldiers.

One of the best remarks was made by an erudite delegate who reminded the audience that ‘the internet and digital media are the battlefields of the 21st Century.’

Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, 16th August 1939. ‘History will judge the Press generally to have been the principal cause of war.

‘Of all Germans; believe it or not, Hitler is the most moderate as far as Danzig and the Corridor are concerned.’ –

Laura Chinchilla former Prime Minister, Costa Rica. ‘The Internet is the hope of an integrated world without frontiers, a common world without controlling owners, a world of opportunities and equality.

This is a utopia that we have been dreaming about and is a world in which each and every one of us are heroes of a destiny that we have in our hands.’

Julian Assange: ‘This generation is burning the mass media to the ground. We are reclaiming our rights to world history.’
