Heart Attack. Symptoms that give the slain away

Cardiac disease remains a leading cause of death, and myocardial infarction is often wrongly seen as an unpredictable, sudden event.

However, some people may experience warning symptoms of ischemia before an acute episode. It is important to recognize these symptoms promptly.

As cardiologist Maria Chaikovskaya explained, one of the most common early symptoms is chest discomfort.

‘This can be a feeling of pressure, heaviness, or burning during physical exertion. These sensations or emotional stress go away with rest. So, patients don’t always seek medical help and attribute it to fatigue or a stressful day,’ the cardiologist noted.

Tchaikovskaya added that other changes in well-being should also be a cause for concern.

According to her, possible early signs include shortness of breath and increased fatigue. An irregular heartbeat, dizziness, and discomfort radiating to the arm, neck, or back are also early signs.

People with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity should be especially attentive to such signals. This includes smokers and those with a family history of cardiovascular disease.

The specialist also drew attention to atrial fibrillation. It is one of the most common types of arrhythmia. This refers to the irregular beating of the heart.

According to her, this condition itself increases the risk of heart attack and can be combined with other cardiovascular risks.

In addition, atrial fibrillation sometimes occurs asymptomatically or episodically, which increases the risk of late detection, the expert warned.

‘Patients with atrial fibrillation may experience irregular heartbeats, palpitations, weakness, or shortness of breath.

These symptoms also require evaluation by a physician,’ the cardiologist explained.

She added that modern treatment methods allow for effective disease management. A timely diagnosis and consultation with a specialist can assess the risks. They can also make an accurate diagnosis and select the optimal treatment strategy.

The doctor concluded that invasive treatment can be necessary in some cases of atrial fibrillation. Catheter-based techniques may be recommended to help control the arrhythmia. This can also reduce the risk of serious complications.
