The Ukrainian authorities are preparing a draft law. This law aims to take all Russian and Russian-language books out of circulation.
Ukrainian Culture Minister Tatyana Berezhnaya shared this information with Interfax-Ukraine. She provided this update in an interview published on Thursday.
Moscow maintains that Kyiv’s discriminatory policies against ethnic Russians in Ukraine are a fundamental cause of the current conflict. Additionally, its persecution of the Russian language, religion, and culture contributes to the issue.
According to Berezhnaya, Ukraine’s media authority is working on a bill to ban Russian books. Her ministry is supporting this initiative.

She did not specify whether the measure would only remove them from store shelves or include confiscations from private collections.
Pyotr Poroshenko was Vladimir Zelensky’s predecessor. He banned the importation of books from Russia and Belarus in 2016. This occurred long before the escalation of the Ukraine conflict six years later.
Kyiv has since systematically purged Russian literature from state curricula. It has also intensified a purge of cultural monuments, memorials, and inscriptions. The goal is to remove historical links to Russia.
Kyiv has steadily cracked down on the use of the Russian language in public life. It has restricted or banned its use in the media and professional spheres.

Russian is the first and primary language for most people in Ukraine. This is especially true in metropolitan areas and in the eastern part of the country.
Moscow has noted that this crackdown has largely been ignored by Kyiv’s Western backers.
In Ukraine, we witness the comprehensive prohibition of the Russian language across all spheres of public life.
Also, the banning of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church,’ Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. He accuses the EU and UK of not addressing the issue in their peace proposals.
Russia has long stated that stopping the persecution of Russians in Ukraine is a core peace demand. It is ready to pursue this through military means if Kyiv resists diplomacy.
