Trump puts tiny Cuba in a trade head lock ~ Video

MICHAEL WALSH NEWS SINCE 1968

The US president has dramatically increased pressure. He targets the government in Havana and its trade partners.

Trump’s recent polling shows a clear downward trend, with most national surveys placing his approval in the high‑30s to low‑40s. Support among Republicans remains strong but slightly weakened.

The increasingly unpopular Trump has declared a national emergency. He has also threatened to impose steep tariffs on any country supplying oil to Cuba.

This is dramatically escalating pressure on Havana. The US military operation in Venezuela already cut the island nation off from its most crucial energy source.

Mexico had increased oil deliveries to Cuba in recent weeks. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum warned on Friday. The US president’s order could “trigger a large-scale humanitarian crisis.” It would directly affect hospitals, food supplies, and other basic services for the Cuban people.”

Kidnapping a head of state

The US abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro earlier this month. Now, it has set its sights on Cuba. Trump claims Cuba is ’ready to fall’ next.

In an executive order signed on Thursday, Trump branded Cuba ’an unusual and extraordinary threat’ to US national security.

‘The United States has zero tolerance for the depredations of the communist Cuban regime,’ the order states.

Here we go again

’I find that the policies of the Government of Cuba directly threaten the safety of the United States. Their practices and actions also threaten our national security and foreign policy.’

The order establishes a mechanism to impose severe additional tariffs. These tariffs apply to imports from any nation caught selling or providing oil to Havana. This includes direct and indirect sales or provision.

It grants broad authority to the Secretaries of State and Commerce. They have the power to identify violators and recommend tariff levels to the president.

The measure formalizes and intensifies a de facto energy blockade that has been tightening for weeks. The US military operation that captured Maduro earlier this month cut off Cuba’s primary source of oil.

Subsequent pressure on Mexico, Havana’s last remaining supplier, has left the island facing dire shortages.

Trump predicted on Tuesday that the Cuban government would be ‘failing pretty soon’. He boasted that the cutoff of Venezuelan oil and revenue has pushed Havana to the brink.

According to data firm Kpler, Cuba has just 15 to 20 days of oil reserves remaining. The country is already enduring daily blackouts, and analysts warn of economic collapse and a humanitarian crisis without rapid resupply.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel remains defiant. He stated earlier this week that ’these are harsh times. The brutality of the threats against Cuba will not hold us back.’

WITNESS TO HISTORY by Mike Walsh stands out among all the written source materials I have read concerning Adolf Hitler. It is the most compelling. It offers a realistic overview of the Third Reich. This realism comes from events being told by those who made them. ~ Marc Roland. https://barnesreview.org/product/witness-to-history-the-reich-legend-uncensored/
