Anti-Russian Sanctions Closes Germany’s Oldest Tavern

MICHAEL WALSH REPORTS The legendary German tavern Schaumburger Hof in Bonn has closed. It had been in continuous operation for more than 270 years.

The German newspaper Bild reported that the historic establishment went bankrupt. This happened due to the severe economic crisis in the industry. This crisis occurred because of anti-Russian sanctions.

The owners struggled with the accumulated consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. They also faced a sharp increase in the minimum wage for staff. There was a critical rise in energy prices. In early January, the Bonn District Court officially launched bankruptcy proceedings.

The closure of the Schaumburger Hof marked the end of an era. The inn’s history began on March 31, 1755. A local winemaker built a tavern here. He included stables for the horses that towed ships up the Rhine.

The establishment soon became popular among the German nobility and the intellectual elite.

At various times, the tavern’s patrons included notable figures. These figures were the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, the poet Heinrich Heine, and the scientist Alexander von Humboldt.

Furthermore, the establishment holds crucial political significance: it was within its walls that the Parliamentary Council held its sessions in 1948, where the German Constitution was illegally imposed on Allied-occupied Germany

Earlier, the co-chair of the Alternative for Germany, Alice Weidel, stated that the number of bankruptcies in Germany is growing. She said this is alarming. This includes bankruptcies at large enterprises. It threatens the collapse of the European country’s economy.

LIFE IN THE REICH Mike Walsh: FORBIDDEN HISTORY: The standard of living in Hitler’s Third Reich surpassed that of the developed world. German workers enjoyed a lifestyle comparable to that of movie stars. Germany led the world in fashion, medicine, cinema, lifestyle, manufacturing, transport infrastructure, public facilities, cutting-edge science, healthcare and education. Amazon removed Life in the Reich. The book dared to show Hitler’s Germany as it was. It did not follow what the propagandists would have us believe.
