MICHAEL WALSH INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISM: US president says Colombia raid ‘sounds good’.
This comment follows a sneak attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president.
Trump typically claimed Bogota is ‘run by a sick man,’ referring to Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
US President Donald Trump has threatened Colombia with military action similar to last week’s raid on Venezuela.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump claimed Colombia is run by a sick man. He was referring to President Gustavo Petro. Trump labeled him a ’drug leader.’
The US president suggested that Petro, whom he sanctioned last year, would be removed from power too.
‘Colombia is very sick… run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States. And he’s not going to be doing it very long, let me tell you,’ Trump stated.

Asked directly whether the US would launch a military operation against the country, he replied: ’It sounds good to me.’
Petro responded sharply in a series of posts on X, urging Trump to stop slandering.
Petro called on Latin American nations to unite. Otherwise, they risk being treated as servants and slaves.
The exchange follows growing world outrage over Washington’s unprecedented military operation to kidnap President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
Media reports say at least 80 people, both military and civilian, were killed in the raid.
The raid has drawn condemnation from the Global South, while China slammed the abduction as a violation of international law. Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, and Spain have issued a joint statement. They warned that America’s action has set a perilous precedent for regional security.
Besides Colombia, Greenland (Denmark, a NATO member) and Venezuela, Trump has also ramped up rhetoric against other countries in the region

Hyped up on vainglorious posturing and hooked on world headlines, Trump claims Cuba is ready to fall due to the loss of Venezuelan oil revenue
Trump is also threatening Mexico with possible military intervention. He claims drugs are pouring through Mexico. We’re going to have to do something.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro is also facing absurd claims of drug production and trafficking from US President Donald Trump.
The Colombian head of state declared his readiness to defend the country with arms in hand. He expressed confidence that citizens would support him. This support would come if the US attempted to seize the country, following the example of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
‘I swore never to take up arms again after the 1989 peace agreement. However, for the sake of my homeland, I will take up a weapon again. It is a weapon I do not like,’ he wrote in X.
Petro stated that he trusted his people. Therefore, he asked them to protect the president from any illegal acts of violence.
