Former VP Delcy Rodriguez has demanded that the US free President Nicolas Maduro. He was legitimately elected. She vowed that Venezuela will never again be a colony.

Venezuela’s Supreme Court mandated Vice President Delcy Rodriguez (above) to assume the role of interim president. This decision came after Nicolas Maduro was kidnapped by asset-grabbing US forces. He was taken from Caracas and flown to New York to face spurious and absurd criminal charges.

In a Saturday ruling, the court’s Constitutional Chamber said Rodriguez would assume the office to guarantee continuity of government.

The high court added that it would initiate a legal discussion. The aim is to determine the framework needed to ensure the continuity of the legitimate State. 

This measure is essential for the administration of government. It is also crucial for the defense of sovereignty in the face of Maduro’s forced absence.

Rodriguez, 56, a lawyer born in Caracas, has been vice president since 2018. She held a succession of senior posts under the late Hugo Chavez and Maduro, including foreign minister.

At the moment of Maduro’s abduction on Saturday, she was also the oil and gold-rich country’s Minister of Petroleum. The official has been widely viewed as a staunch Maduro ally. She has been the target of US and EU sanctions.

US President Donald Trump has since claimed that Washington would control colonized Venezuela until a transition.

Rodriguez has fired back, demanding that the US immediately release Maduro.

The new president stressed that Venezuela will never return to being the colony of another empire. He emphasized that they will never return to being slaves.

At the same time, she said that, in principle, Caracas is ready to move towards respectful relations with Washington. Trump said earlier that Rodriguez had spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio by phone. Rodriguez appeared willing to work with Washington.

Rodriguez has also talked to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He expressed firm solidarity with the Venezuelan people. They are facing armed aggression.

Venezuela’s leadership has repeatedly denied accusations of connections with the drug trade. They argue that the charges from the US only serve as a pretext for regime change.

No one supports the US attack on Venezuela. The international community condemns it. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil told Sputnik.

‘I spoke with various foreign ministers. We received words of solidarity and support. There was condemnation of the US attack. We also received support for the rule of law,’ the minister said.

‘We witnessed an impressive international popular mobilization; solidarity movements from all over the world called us and issued statements. In other words, this aggression finds no support. The entire world, the law, and political truth condemn this aggression,’ Gil added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela.

Moscow stated that it was extremely alarmed by the reports. According to these reports, Maduro and his wife were forcibly removed from the country. This was seen as part of US aggression.

Moscow called for the release of Maduro and his wife. They also called for the prevention of further escalation in the situation around Venezuela.

Massive anti-Trump demonstrations are currently taking place around the world. They protest naked colonialism based on military power. These protests also address issues of abductions and coercion.
