Drivers have several options. These options can help them free their cars from the snow. Auto expert Roman Soldatov provides this advice to road users.

‘When a driver realizes they’re stuck in the snow, they shouldn’t try to accelerate forward. This could make the situation worse. If forward movement is no longer possible, try reversing. Drive back out along the part of the road they used to get stuck in the snow,’ he shared.

If the car is equipped with all-wheel drive, it should be engaged in this situation, the expert continued.

‘Next, rocking the car can help. Just don’t press the gas or brake too hard. You need to gently push forward a little, then back up, to compact the snow,’ he noted.

Never drive without aids in your car’s boot. If this doesn’t help, you should try using a shovel. Dig out the snow under and in front of the car. Clear the arches, Soldatov added.

‘Placing boards, branches, or anything that will help restore traction under the wheels can also help. But be careful.

Anything placed under the wheels will start to fly off as soon as the car starts moving,’ he concluded.

When driving on icy roads, slow down significantly. Avoid using the brake pedal, advises automotive expert Dmitry Popov.

‘The car’s performance changes when driving on ice, especially without studded tires. The car will either try to wobble or start to skid. This means the car will experience a partial loss of control,’ he warned.

In this situation, it is necessary to significantly reduce speed without braking, the expert continued.

‘Because even ABS is a poor assistant in this situation. You need to keep the engine connected to the wheels. Just take your foot off the gas pedal. Reduce the speed to an acceptable level,’ he concluded.
