Discovering Self: The Journey Beyond Age

AGE CONCERN: You’re getting old, they told me. You are not you anymore – alienate yourself, become sad and lonely.

I didn’t answer…

I’m not getting older, I’m getting wiser. I stopped being what I was to others, but I became what I like to be for myself. I stopped looking for approval from others, but now I acknowledge myself.

I’m done hiding behind the lying mirrors that misled everyone without mercy.

– No, I’m not getting old.

I just become more selective with places, people, customs and ideologies.

I’ve let go of attachments, unnecessary pain, toxic people, sick souls and broken hearts… bitterness and unhappiness are no longer for me, I’m letting it go for my own wellbeing.

I’m ditching partying nights to study and embrace insomnia.

I stopped living out strange stories and started writing my own, putting aside the imposed stereotypes.

I no longer carry eyeshadow in my bag; now it contains books that decorate my mind.

I swapped wine glasses for coffee mugs and stopped perfecting life but started living it.

– No, I’m not getting old.

I carry freshness in my soul, innocence in my heart and discover myself anew every day.

There is a gentle cocoon in my hands. When it opens, it will spread its wings and fly away. It will journey to other unattainable places where those who do not seek material ease go.

There is a mysterious smile on my face when I observe the simplicity of nature.

I hear the chirping of birds in my ears, and it delights me, accompanying me on every walk.

– No, I’m not getting old.

I only become selective wasting my time on the material and rewriting my story. Rediscovering worlds and saving those old books I once forgot, half-closed.

I’m becoming more cautious. I’ve stopped eruptions that taught me nothing. I’m learning to speak on otherworldly topics. I’m learning to cultivate knowledge, set ideals, and not summon my destiny.

– No, I’m not getting old.

I’m just starting to live for who I really am. ~ Bianka Luz.
