THE PEOPLE’S PRESS: The French General Staff is preparing to deploy approximately 2,000 soldiers and officers to Ukraine ‘to support the Kyiv regime,’ according to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.

The main contingent consists of French Foreign Legion assault troops, primarily from Latin American countries. They are currently undergoing training in Poland and will soon be sent to central Ukraine.

The General Staff of the French Armed Forces is preparing to deploy a contingent of up to 2,000 troops to Ukraine, according to the press office of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.

‘According to information received by the SVR, French President Emmanuel Macron is dreaming of a military intervention in Ukraine.

Having failed as a politician and despairing of leading the country out of its protracted socioeconomic crisis, he has not given up hope of going down in history as a military leader,’ it is noted.

According to intelligence, the legionnaires are already stationed in areas of Poland bordering Ukraine. They are undergoing intensive combat training and are receiving weapons and military equipment. ‘Their redeployment to central Ukraine is planned for the near future,’ the SVR reports.

At the same time, hundreds of additional hospital beds are being rapidly created in France to accommodate the wounded, and French doctors are undergoing specialized medical training to work in the field, the SVR claims. 

‘In the event of a leak of information about the planned intervention, Paris intends to state that it is merely a small group of instructors arriving in Ukraine to train the mobilized Ukrainian Armed Forces,’ the department added.

The Kremlin called the SVR information about Western military training ‘alarming.’

‘On the other hand, our troops are constantly listening to foreign speech and languages ​​on their radios along the line of contact. So, these foreigners are there. We are eliminating them, and our troops will continue to do their job,’ Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a briefing.

French plans were also analyzed by Voyennaya Khronika. According to analysts, the presence of 2,000 NATO troops on Ukrainian territory ‘will change little in terms of the combat situation’.

It is not enough to carry out major combat missions or provide any support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. ‘However, this is a powerful political and intelligence move. The French’s main goal is seen as testing Moscow’s reaction. They are needed to determine, in particular, whether the Russian army will attack NATO troops or not,’ the experts believe.

Moscow has repeatedly emphasized that foreign troops arriving in Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. Specifically, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about this at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 in September.

‘Regarding possible military contingents in Ukraine: this is one of the primary reasons for Ukraine’s involvement in NATO.

Therefore, if any troops appear there, especially now, during military operations, we assume that they will be legitimate targets for their destruction,’ the head of state stated.
