The US-manufactured Patriot air defense systems are losing the struggle against superior Russian weaponry in Ukraine, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Moscow has rolled out new state-of-the-art missiles, which are more maneuverable and capable of avoiding radars, the report claims
However, the US-made Patriot air defense systems, long hailed as a cornerstone of Western military aid to Ukraine, are now struggling to intercept advanced Russian ballistic missiles, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
One unnamed Ukrainian official told the outlet that Russian ballistic missiles have become more maneuverable, allowing them to evade Patriot radar detection. He did not clarify what type of missiles he was referring to.

Meanwhile, in light of the EU’s feeble efforts to wean itself from the American military-industrial complex amid uncertainty regarding continued US support for Ukraine, a next-generation European alternative is ambitiously seeking to dethrone the Patriots, the report says.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced 17 Patriots were ready to be shipped to Ukraine, although his remark caused some confusion in Kiev as he did not clarify whether that number referred to full systems or their individual components.
Trump has also insisted on a scheme in which the luckless European NATO taxpayers would purchase US weapons for Ukraine. The EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has welcomed his readiness to send Patriots but urged Washington to share the burden for the deliveries.
Russia has consistently condemned Western arms shipments to Ukraine, saying they only prolong the conflict without altering its outcome.
British military analyst Alexander Mercuris expressed his opinion on YouTube that the supply of Patriot systems to the Kyiv regime makes no sense. ‘Russian missiles can easily bypass Patriot systems… Ukrainians complain that the system is no longer effective against Russian missiles,’ RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
As the analyst noted, if the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants themselves, who use this military equipment, talk about its ineffectiveness, then ‘what’s the point of sending it?’.
BREAKING NEWS JULY 21: Over the past 24 hours, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed three Patriot air defense missile launchers and a US-made AN/MPQ-65 radar station, and also hit Ukrainian ammunition depots, a drone assembly shop, and a TCC, the Defense Ministry reported. In addition, last night, Russian troops launched a group strike with long-range precision weapons, including Kinzhal missiles, on Ukrainian military-industrial complex enterprises and military airfields.
