Have you any idea who – if anyone – actually penned the mainstream media story you are reading?

Whilst many mainstream media, print air and television witch to Artificial Intelligence to report news and views, a special issue of the Italian newspaper Il Foglio has become the first official publication in history to have all its content created by artificial intelligence. 

According to The Guardian, it is available to readers both online and on newsstands.

Untouched by human hands: All the text in this four-page newspaper is generated by AI. There is a political article about Russia (Russophobic?), a long review of the state of affairs in the Italian economy, and even ‘letters from readers,’ one of which asks whether AI will make people ‘useless’ in the future.

The Lying Media get worse? AI was used for everything here – for writing texts, headlines, quotes, and summaries. And sometimes even for irony, commented the newspaper’s editor Claudio Ceraza.

Experts note that all articles are well structured, clear and understandable, without obvious grammatical errors. The only difference: they do not contain a single reference to ‘live’ people – the authors.

The publication says that this experiment was useful to assess how far AI can advance in journalism, as well as to identify ‘bottlenecks’ in its work that require human supervision. TELL US WHAT YOU THINK
