IT DOESN’T TAKE BILLIONS TO CANCEL CANCER

A Chicago schoolboy has discovered an antibiotic with potential anti-cancer properties in goose droppings. The results of the study were published in the journal ACS Omega.

As part of a University of Illinois program to engage teens in science, students studied the environment to find biologically active compounds. One participant in the project presented a sample of goose droppings, from which scientists isolated the bacterium Pseudomonas idahonensis.

This bacterium demonstrated antimicrobial activity and became the source of a new natural compound called orphamide N.

The substance showed astonishing properties. In laboratory experiments, it slowed the growth of skin and ovarian cancer cells, which confirmed its effectiveness as a candidate for anti-cancer drugs.

Although the research is in its early stages, the results have already attracted the scientific community’s attention.

The discovery could be an important step in the search for new antibiotics in natural sources, as dangerous bacteria around the world become resistant to modern drugs. Further experiments are expected to help understand whether orfamide N can be used to create effective drugs. PLEASE SHARE OUR PUBLIC INFORMATION STORIES
