HOW TO BE AN EARNING AUTHOR

Many writers yearn to write a bestseller; perhaps one with a storyline that will attract television story scouts and movie makers. It has happened so if you’re not in you can’t win.

There has probably never been a better time for authors to get into print than today. Progress and change in publishing have been revolutionary.

The conventional route via a writer’s agent is less popular. Writing and publishing like much else has gone through revolutionary change Things aren’t what they used to be.

Today, writers’ agents – damn them for their pretentiousness – are a dying breed. Writers’ agents, the gatekeepers of conventional publishers are not known for spotting potential bestsellers. With few exceptions, the greatest writers and novelists even today get off the ground by self-publishing. Writers’ agents are great at spotting winners – after the winners pass the finish line in first place

Today they have rivals such as Amazon, LULU and simply by self-publishing and selling their own book. The popular and cost-effective way of profiting from your book is by self-publishing and marketing.

Firstly, your reasonably priced book editor will bring the written content of your book to publishing standards.  Michael Walsh at keyboardcosmetics@gmail.com has edited scores of books and novels for new and established writers.

Once you have reached this stage he can put you in touch or arrange a Print on Demand (POD) book printer who can provide you with a book cover and within a few weeks deliver to your home any number of books from say 200 copies upwards for much less than whatever cover price you choose. Self-published books normally cost about one-third of their cover price.

Michael Walsh sold 3,000 copies of his poetry collections simply by calling in popular shops – not just bookshops. At each, he offered from 20 to 200 copies ‘sale or return’ (SOR).

He then calls in regularly, collects two-thirds of the cover price and replaces the copies sold. At each outlet, he also did book signings which are very enjoyable as you meet and make friends.

Alternative options through selling include selling online using social media, directly to schools; at talks, fairs, conventions and conferences; and directly through magazine reviews and advertising.

Michael Walsh has published more than 70 of his own books. He has book edited for amateur and professional writers as many more. PLEASE SHARE OUR STORIES
