LIVERPOOL THE ENIGMATIC MARITIME CITY

Everyone enjoys empathy with the great oceans and major seas of the world. Many are fascinated by the ways of the mariner.

The growing number of Michael Walsh titles include beautifully illustrated sea-related books.

Talking of international sentiment, everyone is familiar with the 1,000-year-old Maritime City of Liverpool and the warmth and humour of the people of Liverpool.

The author says that during his years as a mariner, in which he crossed far more seas than a mere seven seas, he was treated as a celebrity simply because his city was the birth canal of millions of European migrants.

From Princes Landing Stage at Liverpool’s Pier Head, Europe’s persecuted and poverty-stricken masses fanned out across the world.

‘It seemed to me that wherever in the world I roved I met people who warmed to me. Why? Because from my city, their forebears journeyed across the four cardinal points of the earth to create new lives for themselves.

Predominantly Christian their last poignant sight of Europe was the enigmatic Church of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas.

Known as ‘The Sailor’s Church’ this sacred place of worship since 1250 had been a sentinel and lighthouse for those embarking and disembarking from thousands of vessels plying the high seas.

Liverpool was also the city that gave birth to and nurtured The Beatles and its Mersey Sound troubadours. Why not add the city’s world-class waterfront, Mersey Tunnel, world-celebrated entertainers, Athenian architecture – Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs?

The amazing port of Liverpool and its 1,000-year-old maritime history is timeless. It seemed everyone in the world fondly remembers Liverpool as the rebirth of their family fortunes.

Who better to pay tribute to the city and all the above attributes than Michael Walsh? The Bootle-born bard is considered to be Europe’s most prolific multi-topic book author and, of course, a true son of Liverpool.

If you want to hold the heritage of this ancient maritime city in your hands then you must avail yourself of his many Liverpool-related books and novels.

These enigmatic titles include A Sea Veneer of Liverpool, The Leaving of Liverpool, All I Ask is a Tall Ship, and Britannic Waives the Rules. Other Liverpool-related Michael Walsh books are The Phantom of Ophelia and Soul Mates.
