A Book to Die For: Jack Scarlett an X-rated former mercenary needs the adrenalin rush provided by flirting with high-risk encounters; in his case several at a time.
Programmed to kill Scarlett is forced into a no-holds-barred conflict in which no prisoners are taken. Determined to stop his high-octane lethal feud is Detective Chief Inspector Eric Jansen.
Predictably, the investigation starts in Liverpool city police headquarters. There, the veteran cop finds nailing a jelly to the wall far easier than stopping a merc’ on a mission.
In the predator’s cross-hairs are the most sinister but successful criminals of the maritime city’s underworld.
‘Mess with the best, die like the rest’ appears to be Jack Scarlett’s maxim as after being crossed in love and trust he evens the score.
The killer question is, can Detective Chief Inspector Eric Jansen stop Jack Scarlett and does he really want to? That is for you to decide.
This novel based on real life and the author’s personal experiences is destined to be a best seller and a great movie or TV series. A real white-knuckle ride starting from: –
‘You had the motive.’
Jack Scarlett appeared not to have heard the question as he gazed at a blank spot on the wall of the police station’s interrogation room.
‘Well!’
‘I wasn’t sure if it was a statement or a question,’ the suspect replied in a monotone voice.
Proficient in body language, the questioning cop displayed impeccable timing. It was a gift he had inherited from Sting Ferguson. His since retired mentor had once earned considerable respect for his success rate in bringing the city’s felons to justice.
Coolly weighing the suspect up, Detective Chief Inspector Eric Jansen analysed each blink of the suspect’s eyelids. At one point he thought he detected a nervous tic in the otherwise impassive stillness of his suspect’s features.
Increasingly aware that this was not going to be an easy case to crack the senior cop had little choice but to persevere. The most experienced officer at the station, Jansen knew that a suspect would inevitably be anxious regardless of guilt or innocence. On this occasion, the poker-faced suspect sat opposite him never betraying his feelings.

Experience also taught the senior officer that a subject could look him straight in the eye and without blinking come out with the most blatant lie.
To add to an inquisitor’s woes, the suspect being interrogated in the police station was regarded as being the easiest challenge.
The detective inspector knew that the subject’s defence counsel could and if they got the opportunity later tear the prepared statement apart and spit it out in front of a credulous jury.
‘It was a statement and a question.’
Jansen hoped that he was as reserved as the suspect sat opposite.

Jack Scarlett was intrigued by the green fleck in the inquisitive police officer’s grey eyes. ‘You got a home to go to tonight?’
‘Yes, I do but you, maybe you do and maybe you don’t, you decide, and your point is?’
‘The number of people who have a motive to disappear a guy like Nikolas Boura would fill a Yellow Pages; good luck with it, Defective Sherlock.’
