Described as Faulty Towers with Added Spice, the British sitcom, Fawlty Towers, withstands multiple viewings, is eminently quotable, and stands up to this day as a jewel in the BBC’s comedy crown.
Destined to be a best-seller with film and television potential, The Dovetails Hotel is a tender and expressive romantic story of Gareth and his two ladies and their ménage a trois lifestyle.
The entertaining and engaging interludes are accompanied by risqué humour and naughty incidents. A reader writes, ‘I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am feeling rather warm.’
Aware of the trailblazing potential of The Dovetails Hotel, the new genre novelist wasted no time in putting pen to paper. The result was the sequel The Enigma of Tiffany ~ To a Dynasty a Daughter.
The Dovetails Hotel is owned and managed by comely and captivating divorcees, Leonora and Felicity. After Felicity meets Gareth on a mutually arranged blind date tour of Europe the engaging Jack o’ all Maids is subsequently taken on as the hotel’s resident repairman.
Following a wonderful reception, circumstances inspire Gareth to go beyond the call of duty when the trio’s mutually agreed state of affairs proves that three is not necessarily a crowd.
There follows the de-stigmatisation of a marriage endorsed by heaven. The between-the-sheets story is based on real life and is femininely laced with humour, girl talk, dilemmas, compromises, romance, and at times pathos.
Irish Novelist Michael Walsh says, “Whilst creating these delightful people, I became a Carlo Collodi. The Italian novelist created the imaginary Pinocchio, who then became a real person. As I penned the novel, Gareth, Leonora and Felicity became real people just as Pinocchio had become real to Geppetto, Pinocchio’s woodcarver creator.
I was always impatient to return to writing their story. You see, somewhere, The Dovetails Hotel chronicle became less my story than their story. As my pen did its work, Leonora, Felicity and Gareth seemed to take over and it became their story rather than mine.
My imaginary friends became almost as real and as endearing as my family. So much so that I even considered paying tribute to them in the dedication rather than the foreword. I became less of a creator and more of an observer. As a copyist, I allowed their ghosts to direct my writing.
I was downhearted on reaching the end of their story as Gareth, Leonora and Felicity prepared to leave. Sorrowfully, I asked, ‘Will we see each other again?’
Leonora smiled, ‘it depends. Perhaps we will.’
‘I hope so,’ whispered Felicity, who I sometimes referred to as Facility. ‘You have told our story and you have told it as I would have had I been a writer.
Turning to Gareth, my eyes told his story and he read my heart as I took his hand.
‘I will miss you as you disappear into the ether of my imagination, my good friend. Will I see you again, I asked,’ as I firmly took his hand.
‘Ask your imagination,’ he smiled. ‘She has the answer.’
With much racy humour, this tell-it-as-it-is story brings to life a covert romantic lifestyle that is far more common than is generally thought.
