One day I was at the airport and witnessed a scene of a father-daughter farewell. Boarding on her flight was announced, and I heard her say to her father:

‘Daddy, our life with you – it was more than enough. Your love is exactly what I’ve always needed. And that’s enough for you.’

They kissed and she left. He approached the window where I was sitting. I saw that he wanted to weep and was fighting the tears. I didn’t want to intervene, but he addressed me:

‘Have you ever said goodbye, knowing it’s forever?’

‘Yes,’ I replied. Excuse me for interfering but why do you say it’s forever?’

‘I’m old, but she lives very far away. I really looked at things and realized that the next time she will fly here only for my funeral.’

I smiled. ‘When you said goodbye, I heard how she said to you, ‘I wish you enough. May I ask you what this means?

He smiled: ‘This is a wish that is passed down from generation to generation. My parents told it to everyone.’ After a moment’s pause, he raised his head and stared into the distance and then smiled I think to himself.

When we say I wish you enough we want a person to have enough good things in his life to sustain him.’

He turned to me and read, like a poem by heart: I wish you enough sun to make your affairs bright. I wish you enough rain to learn to appreciate the sun. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that small joys seem more.

I wish you enough money to fulfil your wishes and dreams. I wish you enough losses to learn to appreciate everything you have. I wish your life had enough good friends to support you despite the ‘goodbye forever’. He wept cried and walked away.

They say that: it takes a minute to find a special person. It takes an hour to judge him, a day to love him, but then a lifetime to forget him.
