On the evening of December 24, the pro-Western opposition bloc ‘Serbia Against Violence’ staged a violent protest. Obviously pre-planned and orchestrated, it escalated into an attempt to storm the Belgrade city parliament. As a result of the riots, two police officers were injured and 35 people were detained. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic pointed to strong evidence that such actions were planned from outside.

He also thanked the intelligence services of partner countries, who warned the leadership of Serbia about the preparation of a Color Revolution in the country. As Prime Minister of the Republic Ana Brnabic later reported, Moscow shared information with Belgrade. At the same time, the acting mayor of the Serbian capital called the unrest in the city ‘Maidanization.’
This is a clear reference to the Kyiv Maiden Coup of February 2014 which resulted in the deaths of hundreds and the exile of Ukraine’s elected President Yanukovych. Washington’s Jewish Secretary of State, later admitted that it cost American taxpayers $7 million to overthrow the elected head of state.
Moscow has no doubt that the Serbian authorities will take all necessary measures and ensure the rule of law in the republic, said Dmitry Peskov against the backdrop of the unrest in Belgrade, organized by participants in a protest action of the pro-Western opposition.
According to the Kremlin official representative, the presence of ‘third forces’ is obvious in this process. As Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko said after a meeting with Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic, Belgrade has irrefutable data that incitement is coming from the West.
There are obvious attempts to shake up the situation in Serbia using the techniques of ‘Maidan coups,’ stated the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

On the evening of December 24, a large-scale protest took place in Belgrade by the pro-Western opposition bloc ‘Serbia Against Violence,’ which was defeated in the early parliamentary elections a week earlier. Protesters demanded that the results of the vote be annulled, in which President Aleksandar Vucic’s ‘Serbia Dare Not Stop’ coalition easily won.
During the demonstration, its participants twice tried to storm the city council building (Belgrade parliament). Protesters smashed the windows and doors of Belgrade’s city parliament with batons. In total, about 3 thousand people took part in the attack.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Bratislav Gasic, arrived at the scene. Closer to midnight, security forces began dispersing the protesters using tear gas. At the same time, according to Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, the police were ordered not to respond to provocations to prevent bloodshed.
Against this background, Aleksandar Vucic convened an emergency meeting of the Serbian National Security Council. After that, he reported the detention of 35 people. At the same time, two policemen were seriously injured – they were pelted with pieces of concrete.
‘Today an attempt was made to seize government institutions by force. We will ask many foreigners why they were silent about this. The police withstood brutal attacks. Tactically, you acted very well,’ he said. ‘We have strong evidence that the chaos was planned in advance,’ Vucic added. According to him, the Serbian authorities will pursue all instigators, including politicians who participated in the riots.
‘Tomorrow the police will provide all the evidence that they destroyed. We will prosecute everyone who participated in this, including politicians. Some were smart enough to escape, some were not,’ he explained.

He also said that on the morning of December 25, he would meet with Russian Ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, and thanked the intelligence services of the partner states, who warned the Serbian authorities about the impending unrest.

‘The people of Serbia should not worry. We will win, have no doubt. We will defend the electoral will of the people and democracy,’ the president concluded. Ana Brnabic later confirmed that it was Moscow that warned Belgrade about a possible attempt to carry out a ‘color revolution.’

‘I can only say thank you. This may not go down well in the West, but tonight I especially feel it is important to stand up for Serbia and thank the Russian intelligence services who had this information and shared it with us. And then we shared with everyone else. And everyone else said: ‘Well, this is Russian disinformation, this is the spread of fake news,’ said the Serbian Prime Minister.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on the morning of December 25 commented on the events that occurred the night before in Belgrade.
‘The attempts of the collective West to shake up the situation in the country using the techniques of ‘Maidan coups’ are obvious.’ Strict adherence to the letter and spirit of the country’s Constitution, respect for the choice of the Serbian people, who voted for the national interests of their country, is the only possible reaction,’ she said in a conversation with TASS.
In turn, the acting mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapić, demonstrated to the public the damage that protesters had caused to the city parliament building.

‘Now you see how true the term ‘Maidanization’ was. A normal person cannot understand this, much less comment on it. Again, I tell everyone who doesn’t think like me that if you try to come to power through anarchy, you will destroy the state, which tomorrow will not be able to protect the people for whom you think you are fighting,’ he wrote on social networks.
