MICHAEL WALSH: In my long and eventful life I have never before experienced such a gulf between the electorate’s wish list and the establishment’s policies. Without question, some dictatorships – the Soviet Union included were or are more popular and representative than are many of Britain and the European Union’s politicians.
The Guardian’s in-depth analysis of New Europe reveals a number of disturbing facts. Only 6 per cent of the European Union’s electorate say they have a great deal of trust in their government. 46 per cent say they have little trust whilst a third say they have no trust at all in their political elite. Less than one in ten (9%) think their politicians act with honesty and integrity. That is damning.
The Daily Mail is a conservative newspaper with a small ‘c’. Most of their readership considers themselves of charitable outlook. One would therefore expect the Conservative and the Labour parties to be broadly reflective of the electorate’s instincts.
Not so. Anyone familiar with that newspaper and others will find its readership driven to distraction by preening smug dictators strutting in and out of ministerial office.

Former BBC Director-General, Greg Dyke revealed in his autobiography: ‘When it came to discussing the war in Iraq staff found it so difficult to find any member of the public prepared to speak in favor that they ended up planting people in the (Question Time) audience.’ Is their proxy war against Russia any different from the unrepresentative elite’s conflicts in Libya or Afghanistan?
On issues as diverse as crime and punishment, foreign policy, immigration, social and health services; banking and electoral reform, these swindling impostors are as far removed from the voters as it is possible to be.
WE WELCOME READERS’ COMMENTS ON OUR STORIES
Do they care? No! Once elected on a platform of blatant lies these rogues are openly contemptuous of their electorate. Politicians have more faces than a town hall clock. They are well aware that their voting public despises them; most of us would prefer washing sheets in a brothel to being in their company.
Sadly, nothing dents the politician’s conceited arrogance. These play-pen statesmen are notorious for making a mess of things. Then, to add insult to injury they have the balls to invite votes to enable them to put things right again. Yes, they create a problem; stand on a ticket of putting it right and are voted in to do so. You don’t get better job security than that.

A man who should know writes: ‘We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the world. No longer a government of free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and vote of the majority; but a government by the opinion and duress of small groups of dominant men.’
Those words were penned by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson (1913 – 1921). Are you still hoping for change? Forget it because you keep voting for the same liars. As is said, ‘the first sign of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result.’
If you really want change then change the system. See my earlier post: True Democracy Requires.
