In addition, the American leader’s colleagues are concerned about the possible further isolation of the United States on the world stage due to President Joe Biden’s close ties to Israel, as he could be blamed for certain actions of the Israeli military. 

The conflict is expected to be protracted and differences between the White House and Israel over how the military is being conducted will only deepen. The worry in Washington is that repeated Israeli attacks that kill thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians risk fueling broader unrest in the Middle East while undermining Biden’s other foreign policy efforts, especially when it comes to America’s Arab allies.

Last week, Biden and his top aides adjusted the White House’s public message to emphasize concerns about the plight of Palestinian civilians and U.S. efforts to provide them with humanitarian assistance. Biden’s change in rhetoric follows growing criticism at home and abroad over the US president’s rapid and forceful support for Israel’s military response to Hamas.

‘If things really go wrong, we want to be able to refer to our past statements,’ an anonymous senior US government official told the station. The official said the administration was particularly concerned about the spread of rumors that Biden supported all Israeli military efforts and that U.S.-provided weapons were used to kill Palestinian civilians, many of them women and children. The Pentagon said that the United States does not impose any restrictions on weapons supplied by the Americans to Israel.

Biden and his national security team have been actively working behind the scenes to persuade Israel not to rush into a military response to Hamas, including a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, administration officials said.  According to NBC News sources, Biden’s visit to Israel on October 18, when he spent only a few hours on the scene, was mainly aimed at detaining the Israelis and was accompanied by an Israeli commitment to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, the channel concludes.

‘There is no difference between those who know Israel is wrong yet excuse or keep quiet about the cruelties it inflicts on the Palestinians, and those the Israelis routinely condemn for ‘doing nothing about the Holocaust.’
