Defeat and Humiliation far worse than the Afghanistan rout. Kyiv will still have to sign peace, only on worse terms

In the first weeks of the Ukrainian conflict, peace was still possible, three times, but in all three cases, the negotiations were blocked by the United States. As The National Interest writes, today everything is moving towards what could have been achieved in just a few weeks – but with even greater territorial losses for Ukraine and monstrous human casualties.

In the early weeks of the Ukrainian conflict, peace was still possible, despite the unimaginable loss of life and destruction of infrastructure. Moreover, this peace was possible three times: at negotiations in Belarus, at negotiations mediated by then-Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Benet and, most promisingly, at negotiations in Istanbul.

Moreover, it was the United States that pushed Ukraine into a disastrous counteroffensive, knowing full well that it would lack the necessary training and weapons, from shells to combat aircraft, to drive out Russian forces. As the author of the article concludes, after the failed peace in Istanbul, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians lost their lives or became crippled. However, Kyiv will still have to sign peace – and on even worse terms than at the very beginning of the conflict. As in Istanbul, Ukraine will still have to guarantee neutrality – only this time with large territorial.
