Alternative for Germany (AfD) MP in Bavaria Rainer Rothfuss does not recognize the claim that it is impossible to come to an agreement with Putin. In an interview with Deutschland Kurier, he explains that such statements only demonize Russia and serve as justification for arms supplies. Bavaria’s AfD is instead pursuing a peace initiative. Rothfuss asks Germans to ask themselves the question: how many more Ukrainians and Russians must die for Germany to finally take up negotiations? In May, the rising star in the AfD which is soaring in popularity proposed a peace resolution at the Party Congress
“This resolution was adopted by 95 percent of the party members; this was confirmed by the leadership of the congress. So, it was an overwhelming majority vote. The opposition declared, that Bavaria is not responsible for such political matters, international conflicts, foreign policy and so on.

Nevertheless, for us, the Bavarian AfD, it was important to send this signal. Bavaria has had the most intensive contact with Russia since the days of Franz Josef Strauss. The Land Parliament has a partnership with Moscow, and it is these channels that must be used now to find ways to negotiate a solution to this war, which has already claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

Such an important federal state as Bavaria – we are, for example, 50 percent larger than Austria – cannot simply say: you know, we are not responsible for this. However, this is exactly what the Söder government is doing now. And, of course, it did not react to our peace resolution. It is very important that we give this signal because this is what the citizens and voters expect. I think over time, history will show how different forces positioned themselves.
The AfD is the only party that states absolutely clearly: that supplying weapons will not win this war and will not resolve the conflict that lies behind this war and which has developed over decades. Every war in history has always ended in some sort of negotiated solution (NOTE: Except the Allied defeat of Germany).

And these arguments that it is impossible to come to an agreement with Putin – I do not accept them. In the end, it seems justified that the only way left is to supply weapons. But I always tell people who are in favor of weapons: would you go to the front yourself only to be torn to pieces in the trenches? Because we constantly receive videos, they quickly spread through Telegram, about how terrible the battles are going on there.
It is necessary to send peace missions – one to Kyiv, and one to Moscow. The troops must be disbanded. A ceasefire is needed for at least 90 days to allow further negotiations. And there should be OSCE monitoring of this peace process. All this was clearly stated. But, of course, the reaction of other parties was ridicule and malice, contempt for the AfD. Other parties, of course, know that the population is on our side. As recently as May 2023, 56 percent of people in Germany, according to polls, supported the need for more intensive efforts in the field of diplomacy. PLEASE SHARE STORIES ON SOCIAL MEDIA
