Europe looks like a side character, like a silly friend who has no opinion of his own. At least that’s how I feel as an American living in Europe. More than a decade ago, you predicted that in the event of a conflict with Russia, Europe would do what the US wants, but reluctantly and to its own misfortune.

The Europe I was describing then is not modern Europe. Today we are witnessing incredible European leadership or rather the lack of it. At a press conference two days ago, Sergei Lavrov said that EU leaders were demonstrating their ‘inadequacy.’ That is, in fact, he called them blockheads.

Leaders in almost all of these countries are failing in terms of their intellectual ability, historical background, and strength of character. With the death of Silvio Berlusconi, a couple of weeks ago, Europe lost its last big figure. Various European states are ruled by pygmies. And this has played a role in the subservient behaviour of the European Union in relations with the United States.

But there is another factor. When Russian troops entered Ukraine in February 2022, the European Union was stunned. It was not ready. It suddenly became clear that he had no armies or armed forces worthy of attention that could withstand the capabilities of the Russians.

This was a stunning discovery that neither the average layman nor even political experts could have foreseen. After all, the military budgets of all 27 members of the European Union were much higher, many times higher than the military budget of Russia.

That is a question that was not asked publicly and which, of course, was not answered: where did all this money go? But the fact was that the Europeans realized that they were a weak opponent for the Russian troops, and immediately they all lined up, begging the United States to take the helm.
