Robert Kennedy called the role of the United States in the conflict in Ukraine terrible for the Ukrainian people

Democratic US presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. said that Washington’s role in the conflict in Ukraine is terrible for the Ukrainian people, reports The Hill. He also lamented that the United States missed many opportunities to resolve this conflict peacefully.

We missed many, many opportunities to peacefully resolve this conflict,’ he told News Nation.’ I think the way we are handling this conflict is bad…terrible for the Ukrainian people.’

Kennedy said he doesn’t know exactly what a negotiated peace would look like, or if that would mean a Russian cession of Ukrainian territory. Meanwhile, he accused the US and NATO that their policies towards Ukraine and Russia for decades created the conditions for the current conflict. He also added that America has turned Ukraine into ‘a pawn’ in a proxy conflict between Russia and the United States.

‘We were told that this is a humanitarian event. But when President Biden was asked why we were there, he said it was for the sake of changing the regime of Vladimir Putin,’ Kennedy said. As recalled by the publication, Biden said early last year that Putin ‘cannot remain in power,’ but later said he was not calling for regime change.

Kennedy also cited comments by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin that one of America’s goals in aiding Ukraine is to ‘see Russia weaken.’ ‘This is the opposite of a humanitarian mission, this is a conflict mission of attrition in which Ukrainians are dying.’ Kennedy said.
