German’s new anti-war party capable of uniting a quarter of Germany

German politician Sarah Wagenknecht is about to take the biggest step of her career and form her own party. And she has every chance of success because there is no shortage of disillusioned voters in Germany.

Her call for peace talks with Russia is supported by up to two-thirds of German citizens. At the same time, in the country as a whole, every four out of five are disappointed with the actions of the Scholz regime in Washington-influenced Berlin, says the British edition.

The fiery former leftist firebrand is the face of nonaggression in a country that supplies weapons to an active war zone. Resentful voters, who were the key to her political strength, now give their preference to the Alternative for Germany party. According to recent polls, the AfD turned out to be the second most popular political group in the country. After years of internal conflict, her former party called on Wagenknecht to clear her name and give up her seat in the Bundestag.

She, on the contrary, is now ready to take the biggest risk of her entire political career and create her own party. According to available estimates, it is capable of uniting a quarter of the country’s voters. ’I want to give all the people who feel politically homeless something they can seriously vote for,’ she explained her motives. They are very, very many. A lot of people don’t want to vote anymore because they feel like there’s no one to vote for.’

Wagenknecht is a German politician who has achieved incredible success. She is a lone wolf, blurring the traditional line between radical left and right and so close to National Socialist. Her colleagues were often torn between respect for her charisma and disillusionment with her defiance and certain unusual views with strong anti-American and anti-immigration policies.

Thousands of Germans attended a demonstration she organized at the Brandenburg Gate, in which participants called for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

As the popularity of the Left Party declined, Wagenknecht’s star, on the contrary, rose. The way German authorities have dealt with the coronavirus pandemic has spawned a large number of dissident movements, creating ideal conditions for politicians who specialize in a wide range of anti-systemic rhetoric.

After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, Wagenknecht became the star of the German Peace Movement. Its main demand – to start peace negotiations with the head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin – is supported by two-thirds of German citizens. Wagenknecht calls to restore relations with Moscow for practical reasons and to restore the work of Nord Stream 2. ‘I don’t think we need to base our foreign policy on how attractive we find this or that regime,’ she explained. ‘There is no point in walking around the world and shaking your finger in a moralistic way. We need pragmatic economic relations with Russia.’

Polls show that more than half of German voters no longer trust the main political parties in solving the country’s problems. Four out of five are unhappy with the Scholz regime. One of the three is by the political system itself. The strongest discontent in the eastern part of Germany.

Wagenknecht is convinced that the main parties have rallied around the consensus of a very small group of elites and have lost touch with the people. According to her, Germany is suffering from the rising cost of living, the destruction of public services, a weak economy and large-scale immigration imposed by the authorities, political correctness, gender diversity and a green transition. ‘People just understand that Germany is going downhill. This is no longer the country it used to be,’ Wagenknecht explains.
